Just saw the response from Peevesie’s Mom for the song Ital ke ghal mein teetal) from “Bahuraani” (1963) . And I remembered, the film Jyoti (1981) is almost a frame to frame remake of the film Bahurani (1963), with Jeetendra playing the role played by Guru Dutt, Hema Malini that of Mala Sinha, Vijendra Ghatge that of Feroze Khan, Shashikala that of Lalita Pawar, Ashok Kumar that of Nazir Hussain, and Deven Verma that of Mukri.

“Chalti Ka naam Gaadi” (1958) was a brainchild of Kishore Kumar. Legend has it that Kishore Kumar produced this movie to get over his tax problems. He wanted to produce a movie that he hoped would flop at the box office and that would enable him to balance his accounts for income tax purposes. He gave away the rights of this movie to his secretary Anoop Sharma who is credited as the Producer of this movie. The movie was directed by Satyen Bose and the movie included the three Ganguly brothers namely Ashok Kumar, Anoop Kumar and Kishore Kumar as well as the would be wife of Kishore Kumar namely Madhubala.

I do not now remember the name of this movie but I had read about it in magazines of 1970s. I request other readers to tell me the name of this movie which inspired these movies.

I have often opined that people who can be the most playful when happy can also be the most mournful when sad. Kishore Kumar is quite an interesting study in contrast that way. He is mainly known for his happy go lucky genre of songs and acting, but when it came to producing movies, most of his movies, except “Chalti Ka Naam Gaadi” (1958) were all serious movies. Likewise, when one makes a list of the most memorable songs sung by Kishore Kumar, lots and lots of serious/sad songs are bound to figure in that list. In fact, Kishore Kumar has sung more sad/serios songs than is normally believed.

With a film title as ‘Haaye Mera Dil’ and with Kishore Kumar and IS Johar in the star cast, one can be assured that the film is going to be a comedy about romantic interests of the heart. And assuredly, the film is a successful comedy, and as in all such films, one has to overlook the glitches in the storyline, not ask to be convinced about plot sequencing, and just relax and enjoy the fun. Haaye Mera Dil (1968) is production under the banner of Manohar Films, Bombay, directed by apparently a duo of directors Ved-Madan (that is how the name appears in the credits). The music is by Usha Khanna, and the lyrics are shared amongst Anand Bakshi, SH Behari and PL Santoshi. The star line up includes Kishore Kumar, Kumkum, IS Johar, Prem Chopra, Madan Puri, Majnu, Raj Mehra, Lakshmi Chhaayaa.
