I have no idea if chana jor, moongphali etc are still sold today on street by vendors. Personally I have not seen such vendors for the past few decades, so chances are, such vendors are on the verge of extinction, if not already extinct.

Most music lovers, including yours truly, are aware of only one song from “Naukri” (1954) and that song is the evergreen Chhota sa ghar hoga baadalon ki chhaaon me. But there are other songs in it that are created with the same amount of love and care and those songs are also wonderful to listen to, if we only care to listen to them. These days I am digging these songs out and I am finding that these forgotten songs are gems.

Kishore Kumar made his debut as a solo playback singer in 1948, when he sang a song in “Ziddi”(1948) for Dev Anand. For much of the next two decades or so, Kishore Kumar sang either for himself or for Dev Anand. But it does not mean that he did not get opportunities to sing for other actors.

This is a category of songs that I heard in my younger days for a few times without being aware of any details and then I forgot all about it. Now, more than four decades later, I became aware of this song thanks to its farmaish. When I listened to this son again, it was like being re united with a song that had got separated from me during my childhood.

Deep deewaali ke jhhoothhe

Though I have seen the movie “Jugnu” (1973), I do not much remember the songs of this movie. While looking for deewali songs, I found that this movie indeed has a deewali song, and that too a happy deewali song. I wonder how I do not remember this song despite watching this movie.

This song from “Shahanshah”(1988) wears many hats. this song is not only the movie opening song, this is also the theme song as well as the title song. In addition this song is also the introdution song that introduces us to the main character of the movie, viz Shahanshah, played by Amitabh Bachchan.
