I have listened to this song many a times, and I liked this song very much. Not only I knew that this song was sung by Mukesh, I was also aware that the movie was called “Raaste ka patthar”.

I read many times that Bollywood movies would have songs where the boy and girl would be shown singing songs running around trees. Honestly, I have not seen any proper song fulfilling this description. On the other hand, I have seen dozens of songs where boy and girl are shown singing elsewhere, viz on car, boat, train etc. In fact, there are enough number of such songs for me to open tags like “car” song, “boat” song etc. So far I have not felt the need of having a tag for “tree ” songs, that is how elusive such songs are.

I have posted many Mukesh solo songs in this blog, and most of them were “sad” songs of different denominations and varieties. This particular song is a duet, and moreover, it is not a sad song. In this blog, I often talk of quality, class, originality etc while discussing songs. But there are occasions when all these admirable qualities take the back seat and we like to listen to songs that hardly seem to possess such high ideals. These are songs that are purely time pass low brow songs, shamelessly plagiarised, with lyrics that are no great shakes and may be even in poor taste, and with picturisation to match. And surprisingly, there are such songs who manage to become chart busters.

Here is a Laxmikant Pyarelal song full of verve and enthusiasm. Such songs were typically the preserve of Asha Bhonsle, but this particular song has been sung by Lata and Minoo Purushottam, and the result is a song that was very popular during its days.

“Chitthi” songs, viz songs where one feels nostalgic about one’s loved ones and waits for “chitthi” from them makes for some of the best and most memorable songs. I have posted one such song from 1970s viz. ” daakiya daak laaya”.
The song “daakiya daak laaya” from a 1977 movie called “Palkon ki chhaon mein” was quite a popular “chitthi” song, before it was upstaged by another song of this genre. This song ” chitthi aayi hai watan se chitthi aayi hai” from “Naam” (1986) touched the heart strings of the listeners as no chitthi song had ever done before.
