I know that a song sung by two singers ( typically one male and one female singer) is called a duet or “dogaana”, but what about a song sung by three singers ? Anyone has any idea ? Is it called a “tigaana” or a “triet” ?

Feroz Khan’s “Dharmatma” was one movie which had a story line based on Afghani background.
This movie was lapped up by its target audience and I am told that this movie became very popular in Afghanistan.

Khayaalon mein kisi ke is tarah

It is a very sweet song to listen to. Almost everyone associated in this song ( except the lyricist) was a newcomer to Bollywood industry and was trying to find his/ her feet. But their collaboration created this masterpiece that is remembered fondly to this day.

The hero Joy Mukherjee is leaving his home for ever, and certainly there has got to be some major reason behind this drastic step. His wife appears suitably chastened, repentent, etc, but that is too little too late,the decision has been taken and there is no going back.

Singer is Mukesh, lyricist is Shailendra and composers are Shankar Jaikishan. One may be forgiven to think that it must be a song picturised on Raj Kapoor. But no, this is a song from “Hariyali aur Raasta”, a movie featuring Manoj Kumar.

It is a song from Malhaar (1951) when all the persons involved in the creation of this song were new in Bollywood industry. Fresh voices of Lata and Mukesh, who were finding their feet in Bollywood sing under the baton of Roshan, himself trying to establish himself as a music director and Shyamlal, who was writing his first lyrics in 5 years. Yes, Shyamlal was the real name of the lyricist who later became better known as Indeewar.

I have posted many Mukesh solo songs in this blog, and most of them were “sad” songs of different denominations and varieties. This particular song is a duet, and moreover, it is not a sad song. So here is a Mukesh song, sung with Lata from “Dharti Kahe Pukaar ke” that can surely qualify to be called a gem.

Listening to this Mukesh song all these years without any additional information, I thought that this song had all the attributes of a Raj kapoor song. It was sung by Mukesh, lyrics looked Shailendra like and music appeared Shankar Jaikishan like, and I was sure that the song was picturised on Raj Kapoor.
