Yesterday (12 july 2013) brought us the sad news that Pran, the legendary villain of 1950s and 60s who then turned a legendary character actor of later decades had breathed his last. Pran Krishan Sikand (12 february 1920- 12 july 2013) made his debut in Hindi movies with “Khaandaan” (1942) as a hero. This movie was produced in Lahore, his favourite place. He subsequently made a mark as a hero in Lahore movie circles.

I have been thinking for the last few days that it is high time that I make a serious attempt to do a write up. More than 200 song lyrics (Provided) by me are already posted here. When I found this blog in January last year, it was like I found heaven on the net. I was just sorry that 3000 plus songs were already discussed and I had found it so late. By then I was almost cut off from old hindi films, since I was engrossed in life’s issues and challenges. Radio channels like vividh bharati and All India Radio (Urdu Service), once my best friends, were a thing of the past that no longer figured in my life. My deep interest in film songs occasionally brought me to Youtube to find some song or the other which came to mind.

Given that during most of the 50s, C Ramchandra was very favorably inclined towards Lata, I was just wanting to find out what is the earliest that he had used the voice of Asha Bhosle. I did a quick scan of the films for which C Ram has composed music, in the Geet Kosh, from 1950 onwards. And unless I made a mistake in my scanning, the film ‘Meenaar’ in 1954 seems to be the first time that Asha Bhosle has sung for C Ramchandra. If not mistaken, then this is likely the first such occasion.
