Month of August is full of so many National memories. Whenever we celebrate 9th August or 15th August, there will be invariably references of martyrs who dedicate their lives for the nation. We fought one war with China and four with Pakistan, and our loss of ‘shaheeds‘ was substantial.

“Maalti Madhav”(1951) was produced by BhaleRao-Shreenivas Joshi and directed by M Neelkanth for Prasann Pictures, Bombay. This mythological movie (based of Sansktit Poet Bhavbhuti’s creation of the same name) had Durga Khote, Anant Marathe, Baby Shakuntala, Balakram, Indu Pal, Pittu, Sushaant, Vasant Shinde, Indu Kulkarni, Ganpat Rao, Gauri, Kelkar, Subodhini, Takalkar, Kumud Lele, Bargeer, Suman, Raj Kishore, Sulochana etc in it.

Smita Patil (17th October 1955-13th December 1986) was an unusual actor much in the same template as Shabana Azmi if one may say so. She did justice to all the characters she was offered. One can distinctly remember her act in “Arth” as a person who was obsessed and insecure about her lover. Or her simply -being a prop-for-the-hero role in movies like Shakti, Namak Halal, Badle Ki Aag, Ghungroo etc. And we cannot forget her movies like Ardh Satya, Bazaar, Mirch Masala, Bhumika, Bhavani Bhavai, Umbartha (the last two movies mentioned were dubbed from Gujarati & Marathi respectively.) Umbartha was Subah in Hindi.
