This particular song is one that is a much liked song, but I doubt if too many people would be able to explain why they like this song. True, Rafi’s voice is as divine as ever, and Laxmikant Pyarelal’s music is always great, but how many of them are able to understand the lyrics ? Personally, I have little idea what the lyrics mean.

Here is a song that is a perenniel favourite of kids and grown ups both. The song is very well known but few people can tell which movie this song was from. Even I keep forgetting, but it is good that my farmaish senders make my task easier by mentioning the name of the movie with their farmaishes.

This is a song where the genius of Kaifi Azmi can be seen in his ability to express complex, complicated and involved feelings in a very coherent and understandable manner. The situation is one where India ( a peace loving country that had no time and inclination for a war) was attacked by China in 1962, and as happens with those unprepared, untrained and unequipped, the Indian soldiers found themselves as sitting ducks on the front.

This Rafi song is one that I have been listening to from my childhood, and this is one of the Rafi songs that is hardwired into my brain. Of course, additional informations viz movie, music directors etc were not part of that information.

“pyaar hi pyaar” is a movie starring Dharmendra and Vyjyantimala and this movie has a couple of great romantic songs. But I was not aware that it has a great comedy song too.

This outstanding song “tum bin jaaun kahan” appears twice in the movie. This song was sung by Rafi for Shashi Kapoor and Kishore Kumar for a lesser character. Lyricist was Majrooh Sultanpuri and music was composed by R D Burman.

Jeetendra has been picturised in Bollywood movies while riding all kinds of vehicles from bullock carts to trains, and from buses and trucks. In one movie, Jeetendra was even shown riding an elephant.
