Today (18 march 1938) is the 79th birth anniversary of Shashi Kapoor. It seems like yesterday when Shashi Kapoor was a leading star of the Hindi movies when I was a school boy in 1970s. when I checked up, I found that four decades have passed since. 🙂

THe movie had Shashi Kapoor, Vimi, Prem Chopra, Jabeen Jaleel, Nazir Hussain, Sulochana, K N Singh, Tarun Bose, Kamal Kapoor, Sulochana Chatterjee, Shammi, Bhola, Paryag Raj, Jaishri T, Rajendra Nath, V Gopal, Praveen Pal, Uma Dutt, Sham Kumar, Brahm Bhardwaj etc in it.

This movie, which was a remake of Nasir Hussain’s own “Jab Pyaar Kisi se hota hai”(1961) had Shashi Kapoor, Asha Parekh, Nirupa Roy, Tahir Hussain, Rajendranath, Madan Puri, Laxmi Chhaya, Tabassum, Sujata, Dulari, Asit Sen, Wasti, Kishan Mehta, Suhail, Iftekhar etc in it.

“Pyaar Ka Mausam”(1969) was a remake of “Jab Pyaar Kisi Se Hota Hai”(1961) was the first movie produced and directed by Nasir Hussain. This movie turned out to be a box office success and Nasir Hussain kept making movies with the same story line in future as well.

In the second half of 1960s and the first half of 1970s, Shashi Kapoor was the busiest actor in the industry. After his struggle years of early 1960s, and riding on the success of films like ‘Jab Jab Phool Khile’ (1965), he started getting offers in such huge numbers, and because he did not turn down any one, there was a time when he was booked for almost 5 to 7 years at a single stretch.

The best thing about Holi songs is that in most cases, the message of colors is immediately apparent in the coloring of the lyrics. The songs get created in the spirit of Holi itself. It is a social and group celebrations, and the songs of this festival are sung by multiple singers, and performed by a multitude of players on the screen. And as we sit down to color code the lyrics, the resulting view is as colorful as the festival itself.
