LOST AND FOUND-GEMS FROM UNRELEASED FILMS…Song No. 11
———————————————————–

it is not that Unreleased films were the speciality of the 40s or 50s. on the contrary, the percentage of such films has increased from the last few years. What I learnt from last few days, while working on this series is, that the number of incomplete or unreleased films was the maximum- to the extent of almost running over 100- during the years 70s and 80s. If you see the statistics, you will find that the number of censored films has also increased systematically from 1970 onwards. In 1990, it touched 200 films and thereafter from 2000, it has always been between 200 to 300, touching 250 in 2005.

And so they will lose money if they make religious films. And so we have been seeing less and less of religious and spiritual themes on screen. Rather, I do not recall seeing any title that indicates a religious film, in the past decade or so.

Songs to Tickle Your Memory – 7

This song is from a very obscure ‘jaadugar sainyaan’ type film from 1964 titled ‘Magic Carpet’, the name in Hindi is ‘Jaadui Shatranji’. Consider the timing, consider the name of the music director, maybe you will make the connections.
