The song under discussion today is from the film Shin Shinaki Boobla Boo-1952. The film was produced and directed by Pyarelal Santoshi aka P.L.Santoshi, who wrote its songs also. One of the iconic songs of Lata “tum kya jaano, tumhari yaad mein hum kitna royen…” is from this film only. It was a film made by Santoshi Productions,Bombay.

It is a very special occasion for the blog but this special occasion escaped everyone’s attention. The reason could be that my manual score keeping gave me a different figure compared to the automatic count given by the blog. When I accidentally looked at the count on the right hand side of the blog, I found out that Asha Bhonsle’s count of songs in the blog stood at the round figure of 2000 !

“Naya Zamaana”(1957) was directed by Lekhraj Bhakri for Link Films, Bombay. The movie had Pradeep Kumar, Mala Sinha, Veena, Kammo, Leela Mishra, Badri Prasad, Gope, Shukla, Poonam Kapoor, Shakuntala, Brahmdatt, Daizy Irani, Baby Naaz, Al Nasir etc in it. Today is the 83rd birthday of Sulochana Kadam (nee Chavan) whose singing career started, more or less, at the same time that of Lata Mangeshkar and Geeta Dutt. While the latter two playback singers are well known even to the current generation, the name of Sulochana Kadam may not sound familiar to them. However, she is well known as lavani Singer Sulochana Chavan in Maharashtra, South Madhya Pradesh and North Karnataka.

GEET GOVIND (1947) was produced under the banner of Kanu Desai Productions and was directed by Ramchandra Thakur. The star cast included Prem Adib, Leela Desai, Sulochana Chatterjee, David, Bhagwan Das, Ram Singh, Pesi Patel, Kantilal, Rampiyari etc. There were 14 songs in the film penned by Pandit Indra (11) and Balam Pardesi (3) which were set to music by Gyan Dutt. The film was released on 3rd January 1948 at Majestic Cinema in Bombay (Mumbai).

The inboxes on my email, mobile and YouTube account seems to be getting as many reminder messages these days, as messages for request. 🙂 This song apparently has not yet surfaced in public domain. And for those who have heard it, and remember it, this is a vintage Chitragupt melody – stuff that memory ticklers are made of. I got requests from more than one friend (Arvinder ji included, of course) to post this song. And our dear friend Manju ji (daughter of producer director K Amarnath) is also waiting for this song.
