“Manzil” (1979) was directed by Basu Chatterji for Ambika Pictures, Bombay. I am sure that quite a few regulars of this blog must be wondering why an Amitabh Bachchan song had not appeared so far, seeing that today is his 72nd birthday (DOB 11 october 1942). As it is, I typically work up from older songs to newer ones in a day. I have discussed four songs of 1940s and 1950s today whereas Amitabh Bachchan made his debut in Hindi movies only in late 1960s. 🙂

Since the last two days a certain music channel (B4U Music I think) is advertising that they are going to dedicate their “Awaaz De Kahaan Hain” programme to Mohd. Rafi and that it is going to be spread over 23rd and 24th. And my brain….like time some tube lights of olden days blinked and blinked and realized that (realization after 5 years of being an Atulite) that my daughter’s birthday is close to Rafisaab’s birthday. And that she had written the lyrics for the song from “Amar Akbar Anthony” a long time ago. Also that she had wanted me to write a suitable write up for it.

“Dostana” (1980) was produced by Yash Johar and directed by Raj Khosla. The movie had Amitabh Bachchan, Shatrughan Sinha, Zeenat Aman, Prem Chopra, Amrish Puri, Helen, Pran, Paintal etc in it. Another movie with a copycat title was Rakesh Kumar’s “Yaarana” (1981), also starring Amitabh Bachchan.

I realised it only just now, literally at the 11th hour that today (8 march) is the birth anniversary of Sahir Ludhianvi (8 march 1921- 25 october 1980). How could I forget the fact that Sahir Ludhianvi’s birthday falls on the International Women’s day ! This fact was mentioned by Raja while discussing Sahir Ludhianvi song (Aurat ne janam diya mardon ko (Saadhana)) this day two years ago.
