“Friendship” is a concept of relationship. It means different things to different people. For me, it is a space where I can be myself, no pretense and no expectations of always being well behaved. And certain amount of taking each other for granted, as I believe I do for all my relationships. I have been lucky in my friends that they tolerate my taking them for granted, at times. And consider themselves to be punching bags, when I am in full flow on some matters/issues. And one of them dutifully registers all my complaints, and tries to find solutions, and gives valuable suggestions. So much so that it makes me feel guilty for worrying her in trivial matters.

I grew up in a small village and went to a village school, where sometimes the classes were conducted outside and we used to sit on the ground.

It is perhaps the inability of our times to distinguish between the “good” and the “great”, the “noteworthy” and the “legendary”, the “impressive” and the “brilliant”, that leads us to use the latter of the two adjectives in each case in far greater measure, and for far more modest achievements than would have been approved of by an earlier generation. Or maybe it is just our laziness, or our tendency to exaggerate, that leads us to our use (or abuse) of the English language in this manner.

So here I am again with another Jodi.
This Jodi gave us such a lovely time at the movies that our generation must be blessed to have been there then. And by a Jodi it need not necessarily mean a girl and a boy. It could be two girls as in Shabana Azmi –Rekha or Rekha- Moushmi Chaterjee or Shabana Azmi – Neetu Singh. Oh the list is endless or is there a definite number to such Jodis. There are also jodis of Males like Sanjeev Kumar- Shatrughan Sinha, Amitabh with Vinod Khanna as well as Mehra. Amitabh Bachchan must be one of the few actors who jelled with any hero he worked with viz. Shashi Kapoor, Dharamendra, Shatrughan Sinha, Rishi Kapoor, and with the later generation as well be it Govinda, Akshay Kumar, ShahRukh Khan , Ajay Devgan, Sanjay Dutt etc. Ab in saari jodiyon ki baat hi kuch aur hai! What say?

How many people are aware of a movie called “Ek Nazar” ? People may not be aware of such a movie, but there were in fact not one but two movies of such a name. One was released in 1957 and it had a few nice Talat Mahmood songs under the music direction of Ravi. Then there was another movie of this name in 1972, and it too had a nice song, which is the song under discussion here.

This song is a rather uncharacteristic song on many counts, when viewed in hindsight.

“Naseeb” was supposed to be a sequel of “Amar Akbar Anthony” with the same cast of brothers. But unfortunately Vinod Khanna was into following Acharya Rajneesh those days and so he had to be replaced by Shatrughan Sinha. Amitabh and Rishi Kapoor continued from the previous movie as did Pran from the previous movie as their father.
As if bringing together a big star cast of leading stars was not enough, the song “John Jaani Janardan” brings together a galaxy of other current and retired filmstars of Bollywood. In fact this song has been aped in the 2008 movie “Om Shanti Om” too, though not with the same effect.
