‘Spy In Goa’ (1966) was produced by H Ram and K Lal under the banner of Suresh Pictures and was directed by Dharam Kumar. The cast included Shaikh Mukhtar, Randhawa, Malika, Mohan Sheri, Aruna Irani, Amarnath, Hercules, Meenaxi, Sujata, Dilip Dutt, Kesari, Lalita Kumari, Maruti, Helen etc. The film was originally titled as ‘Panic in Goa’ and the film’s posters in this title were issued. Continuing our series on some rarely heard songs of Asha Bhosle, we come to this beauty from Gehri Chaal 1973. About eight years ago, Peevsie’s Mom Ji, a regular contributor to the blog had introduced this movie with a very popular song “Jaipur ki choli mangwa de re sainyya.”
Now, I get a chance to introduce a solo by Asha Bhosle – Maara, Wade Ne Tere – which is penned by Rajinder Krishan and composed by Laxmikant Pyarelal.

Almost two years have elapsed when I started a series on songs composed by Rahul Dev Burman in the decade of eighties (viz 1981 to 1990). This “social” movie had Sajid Khan (sr), Yogita Bali, Helen, Sulabha Deshpande, Kanhaiyalal, Anwar Hussain, Appi Umarani, Asit Sen, Mukri, Bhagwan, Sikandar Azam, Shefali Chaudhary, Bharat, Balkishan, Rajat Kumar, Balwant Singh, Satyendar Verma, Manu Dhawan, Kishan, Daya Devi, Leena Das, Pal Sharma, Chandu, Pardesi, Ratan Gaurang, M A Latif, Mumtaz Begam, Geeta Khanna, C M Nagar etc. Rehana Sultan and Rakesh Pandey had made guest appearances in the movie.

Today is 19 July 2024. It was on this date in 2008 that this blog took its first tentative step by publishing its first offering which was Mile na phool to kaanton se dosti kar li.
I was toying with the idea of this blog where I would give my comments of Hindi movie songs. I was somewhat inspired by Khushwant Singh, who would give comments on various matters in his weekly column “with malice towards one and all”. 🙂

7th of July was the 8th death anniversary of Om Prakash Sonik, the second person in the two member mama-bhanja composer jodi, Sonik Omi.
Om Prakash, or Omi was born in Sialkot in 1939. his father was a real estate dealer and mother was a housewife. After the partition, the family moved to Delhi to live with his uncle Manohar Lal Sonik, who used to work in a ‘Musical Orchestra”. Manohar Lal was blind.
