Today’s song is from the film ‘Kismat Palat Ke Dekh’ (1961).
Generally, I like to write on films from the 30’s to the 50’s decade, which is my comfort zone. I feel homely and on friendly ground when I write about those old films. Films after 1960 are NOT a ‘ NO- NO ‘ for me, but unless I find either the film or the song interesting, I normally do not choose that song. That way and to allay any misunderstanding in our readers’ minds, let me stress here that I have written more than 200 posts on films from 1960 to 2013 also. Actually since there is still so much scope in the first 3 decades of talkie films, turning to the films of 60+ songs is not that common.

Mega milestone.
Mega event.
And a Mega Rare song being discovered.
Given the age of online proliferation and sharing, it is a great event that one chances to discover a film song that one does not even begin to imagine may even exist.
Of course yes, the song is identified and listed in the Geet Kosh. But as is the case with the majority of the listed songs in the 1931-40 volume of Geet Kosh (Volume I), we do not even pause to glance at the list of songs on page after page, unless we come across a fuller body of description for a film of that era. And verily so. Out of the close to 9,900 hundred songs listed for 930+ films that are slated for that decade, sadly enough, less than 1,200 are actually available at this time. That is the state of affairs we have at this time.

Hullo Atuldom
A song from a new movie (by the standards of this blog) for the listening pleasure of followers of this blog.
‘Hungama (The Ruckus)’ is a 2003 release – nearly 20 years old already – that was produced by Venus records and tapes and directed by Priyadarshan. One of the many that Priyan (as his friends in the South address him as) remade from Malayalam hits. It was a remake of Priyans’ Malayalam ‘Poochakkoru Mookkuthi’ (meaning A Nose-ring for the Cat) which was itself a remake of the Telugu movie ‘Gopala Rao Gari Ammayi’ which had elements borrowed from the plot of Charles Dickens ‘The Strange Gentleman’.

Today’s song is from the film Mulaqat-1947.
The film was made by Taj mahal pictures. It’s all 11 songs were written by Munshi Dil Lucknowi and the film was directed by the Lyricist himself. Actually, ” Munshi ” means a Clerk, a writer, a literary assistant or a Language Teacher. How this Munshi directed the movie is a wonder. But then in the Hindi film industry, you find many such odd, unimaginable things. This was not his first directorial venture. He had already tried his hand at film-“Abla ki Shakti’-1940 and after this film, he again directed a film “Do Bhai”-1954. As a Lyricst, he write 126 songs in 16 film which included films like Iqrar-42,Naqgad narayan-43 ( a remake of Marathi film ” पैसा बोलतो आहे”), Sohni Mahiwal-46 and Laila-54. After this he migrated to Pakistan.

Hullo Atuldom
There are so many possible songs to go with today’s post. Songs that will do justice to the personality and versatile talent of the concerned celebrity.
He was an actor born with acting in his genes. He was not a star-kid but a star-heir, facing the camera for the first time when he was barely 2 or 3 years old. He was seen next as an adolescent playing his father’s Bachpan. All that I have written are well known facts about this actor, who in later years turned a producer-director much like his father. Along with his brothers he tried to keep the studio and banner, set up by his showman father, aloft till 2017 when the iconic property in Mumbai’s Chembur area caught fire and collapsed during the shoot of a television reality show. The brothers then decided to pull down the shutters on a piece of history of Indian cinema.

Today’s song is from the ‘1972’ movie ‘Dil Ka Raaja’.
This is one movie which I came across while presenting the ‘missing movies of 1972’ on the blog. Though this movie made its debut on the blog way back on 14.10.2014, only one song from this movie has been posted on the blog. I do not remember to have listened to other songs from this movie. That is the reason for this post where today we will enjoy the second song from this movie.

Today’s song is from the ‘1959’ movie ‘Saahil’.
I recall becoming aware of this title while going throough HFGK Vol-III (1951-1960) during my stay at Nagpur. I would regularly browse through the IIIrd volume of HFGK for the decade 1951-1960 those days(2015-2017). After that I went to Kenya for a project which lasted around three years. I came back after completion of the project in December’2019. Since then, I am more or less sharing songs from seventies and eighties, sometimes end of sixties. Songs of 1950s have become few and far between.
