There are innumerable ‘when in doubt…’ quotes out there from ‘when in doubt wear red’ to ‘go public’ to ‘throw it out’. Just to give the briefer ones. There are some sensible ones like ‘do not react’ or ‘sleep over it’. For someone like me fortunate enough to know Urdu, it makes sense to turn to Urdu poetry.

Khursheed, who dominated the 40s with her memorable songs, was about to leave India for Pakistan, after partition. By that time, she had become a major singing star of the industry and was singing with other major singing stars of that time. In the previous article, A rising Khursheed sang with a fading Vasanti. Song no. 7 is once again a duet. I am not yet done with the duets from Rafi excel sheet. I was in two minds whether to have songs with ‘Ankhen’ ‘nigaahen’ and ‘nazaren’ also which match the theme. But the songs that have come my way having the ‘naina’ or ‘nainon’ are so endearing and similar yet with different flavour, that my hands are quite full.
