#The Decade of Seventies – 1971 – 1980 #
————————————————————————
(Songs from Un-released/Un-Titled movies)
Yesterday 13th May 2025 was the seventy-nineth birthday of Shree Bishwanath Chatterjee compiler of Hindi Film Geet Kosh Vol-V (1971-1980).
This post is delayed on my part as I could not finish it yesterday. Earlier I had planned to visit to Nagpur for this special occasion, but it could not happen. I had spoken to our common friend Mr Avinash Shravane at Nagpur, and we thought that few likeminded friends would also attend this function. But it did not materialize. However, few friends did arrange some program as informed to me by Mr Chatterjee himself, when I called him to wish him on his birthday yesterday. (I am yet to get the updates about the function held yesterday, so that may be covered later 😊).

Today’s song is from a less known film Bikhare Moti-1951.
As far as the decade of the 50’s, i.e. the period from 1951 to 1960, is concerned, it was famous for three reasons.

Today’s song is from the film Ratnadeep-1952. This is the last song of this film, thus making the film YIPPEED !
In the last 7 songs (today’s song is the 8th song) of this film, almost every aspect of the film, songs and the artists working in it have been discussed. Today we will discuss something which is close to my heart, from this film. Today’s song is sung by one of my favourite singers of Hindi Cinema – GEETA DUTT. Some of our readers must be knowing that there is a site called http://www.geetadutt.com, run by some of her ardent admirers. A few years ago, on their request, I had written an article on Geeta Dutt, on her Death Anniversary, for their site.

Today’s song is the last song from the film Guru Ghantal-1956.
We got Independence in 1947 and the most delighted industry in India was the Film Industry. The reasons were simple.
Some reasons were….
1. Unjustified restrictions on the storylines were now removed.
2. Stories and songs would be free from any constraints.
3. Raw Film prices would be controlled and its availability assured.
4. No force on making ‘ War Effort’ (propaganda) films anymore.
5. An Independent union of filmmakers, without Government intervention was now possible.
6. More facilities for the industry could be expected. etc etc.

Today’s song is from the film Ratnadeep-1952.
In the early era of Indian Talkie Cinema, the two major centres of film production were Bombay and Calcutta. They had dual responsibility. One, to make films to entertain the local audience and two, to enter the Hindi cinema market spread throughout the Indian subcontinent. Film makers found a way for this. Films were made in two languages simultaneously-the Local language and the Hindi version.

Today’s song is from the film Madhubala-1950.
When I have no specific song or a film in mind to write about, I scan through the HFGK or the index of Film titles. When a name creates curiosity or interest, I go to the HFGK for details. My first choice is a singer whose style and songs I like. The second point is the Mukhda of the song to get an idea of the song. If these things evoke some feelings in me, I go through the later steps- like to find out if this is still not yet posted on the Blog, whether it is available on YouTube and if it is in full length etc etc.

Hullo Atuldom
This is not planned as a “Blog Ten Year Challenge” post. It has just happened to be one.
Actually, I was humming a song most of yesterday, visited the blog to check if it had been posted yet and found a song from the same film had been posted exactly 10 years ago. I went a step further and found that there were 3 posts on “this date, that year”. Two of the three posts were by Sudhir ji; one post being his down-memory-lane of the Mumbai- Gangout that had a few Atulites meet in December of 2014. The post by Sudhir ji for the song “Boribunder Se Borivali Dekh Li Maine Gali Gali” was much more than a report of the gangout & the visit to Arunkumar Deshmukh ji’s residence by Atulites. It was also a nostalgia trip for readers who know of the various localities that he has mentioned in the post. I particularly like the (now invisible Atulite) Khyati Ben’s comment to the post. That post had Sudhir ji, talking of how he had stayed across the road from Arunkumarji’s residence, back in the late 1980s; but they were unaware of each other’s existence then, prompting (another invisible Atulite) Raja ji’s comment of how the post could well be the story of a Manmohan Desai film.

Today’s song is from the film Hunterwali ki Beti-1943. This is perhaps the only film in the world where the Heroine has done the role of a daughter, whose mother also was the same heroine in an earlier film. The Heroine fearless Nadia entered the world of Stunt films in India, with the hit film ” Hunterwali “-in 1935. After 8 years, she was doing the role of ‘Hunterwali ki beti’-1943, in this film ! Great indeed !!

Today’s song is from the first film of Filmistan Studio – Chal Chal Re Naujawan -1944.
A group of disgruntled employees – actors, directors, technicians etc -left their parent company studio, Bombay Talkies, in 1942 and established their own studio- Filmistan. In the year 1942, they were not the first or the only people to leave their parent studio and start their own ventures. There were many like them.
