Today’s song is from an extremely obscure film Chhoti Duniya-1953.
The reason this film is so obscure is that the film was made by an unknown banner – Meera Productions, Ahmedabad. The producer’s name- D.M.Sheth- was as unknown as this film’s director- cum – Hero, Uday Kumar. The entire list of the starcast was almost full of less known or unknown artistes like Uday Kumar, Leela Kumari, Nannoo, Ranjit kumari, Ashwini Roy, B.Lalwani, Mulji Khushal, Babu, Chander, Asha etc. Since it was a film produced in Gujarat, it is possible that some of the artistes may be from Gujarathi films or stage dramas. Today’s song is from the film Pyas-1941.
The year 1941 was an year which would start the realignment, improvement, trials, changes and introduction of new waves in acting, singing, direction and the story contents. Many ‘Carried Forward’ baggage from the silent film era were to be discarded- like Music based on stage and dramas in Parsi, Gujarathi and Marathi languages. New Genres were to be opened up to make this entertainment more acceptable. Additionally the second world war, started in 1939 end period, had an unpredictable duration and the film industry would have to cope up with the British Government’s expectations from the film industry.

Today’s song is from the film Gauna-1950.
Some of the readers may wonder about this title. The meaning of this word may not be known to readers from Non-Hindi states. Google defines it as….
” Gauna is a North Indian Hindu custom and the ceremony associated with the consummation of marriage is prevalent in the states of Bihar, U.P. and Rajasthan. It is associated with the custom of Child Marriage. The ceremony takes place several years after marriage.”
Hindus all over India have this custom in almost every state, but with a different name in every language. Of course now that the child marriage is illegal by law, this custom is out of date. However it is still performed immediately after all marriage rituals even these days in every Hindu marriage performed traditionally. These days the Bride and the Groom are quite matured at marriage time – mostly in their mid 20’s or even late 20’s. They already know everything about ‘everything’ and the custom is followed only symbolically most times.

‘Iraada’ (1971) was produced by A Ghani and Rajdeep under the banner of Life & Arts, Bombay (Mumbai) and was directed by Rajdeep who also acted and wrote the story, screenplay and dialogues. The cast included Shahida, Sarita, Rajdeep, Iftekhar, Murad, Hiralal, P Kailash, Randheer, Kundan, S Nazir, V Gopal, Tun Tun, Shaikh, Rani, Satya Rani, Baby Tasneem, Baby Mahjabeen. Today’s song is from the film Sasural-1941.
Films with the same title were made in 1941, 1961 and 1984. This was a romantic comedy film involving a mistaken identity. Now, can you recall how many films have you seen about mistaken identity (with or without knowledge) ?. Mostly, such stories are based on ‘Look alikes’, like films Don, Chandralekha, Angoor, Chacha Chaudhary, Do dooni chaar, Milan(46) etc. Some films were, where the identity of the Hero was mistaken intentionally. Today’s film Sasural-1941 falls under this category. This same theme was repeated in films Panghat-1943 and Chitchor-1976.

‘Tumhaari Sulu’ (2017) was produced under the banner of T-Series and Ellipsis Entertainment and was directed by Suresh Triveni. Vidya Balan and Manav Kaul were in the lead roles, supported by Neha Dhupia, Vijay Maurya, Uday Lagoo, Malishka Mendonsa, Mahesh Pillai, Seema Taneja etc. Anshuman Khurana made a special appearance as himself. Hullo Atuldom
This post by Avinashji was a post full of his memories of his childhood & how he got into the habit of seeing films.

“Saajan ki Saheli” (1980) was a film that was produced & directed by Saawan Kumar Tak (9th August 1936- 25th August 2022). The songs were written by Majrooh Sultanpuri (1st October 1919- 25th May 2000) & Saawan Kumar Tak. Usha Khanna (d.o.b. 7th October 1941) was the music director. Asha Bhonsle, Sulakshana Pandit, Mohd Rafi, Mahendra Kapoor, Suresh Wadkar & Usha Khanna (herself) were the playback singers.

Today’s song is from the film Aahuti-1950.
I have not seen this film and I could not get any details of this film like its story etc from any source, so I do not know what kind of ‘ sacrifice ‘(aahuti) this film was about. From some of the songs, this film Aahuti aka Anokhi qurbani seems to be a film about Independence struggle or on conditions soon after India’s independence. This also looks like having a love story in the background.
