I have actively looked for songs on ‘dheere dheere’ theme and have found a few good songs from 50’s decade. In this process, I found many songs which suit this theme and are already posted, apart from some famous songs which I had listed in an earlier post of this series.

Hullo Atuldom
“Duplicate” (release date 8/5/1998) was a movie that we went to see as a family because it had Shahrukh Khan in the lead. Those were times when we used to pick-and-choose movies which had decent or fun songs and some actor of our liking and we could take the children along. Thus we ended up seeing this ‘not-so-great’ story-wise film which was produced by Yash Johar and directed by Mahesh Bhatt. It had music by Anu Malik and lyrics were by Javed Akhtar. Alka Yagnik, Kavita Krishnamurthy, Kumar Sanu, Abhijeet Bhattacharya, Udit Narayan and Shankar Mahadevan were the singers used. This was one of the cassette tapes that I had purchased as the kids loved its songs. Personally speaking, I enjoyed the movie as it was inane, illogical and simply masaledaar Bollywood stuff. The kind which helps us to forget ourselves during the duration of its screening.

I have mentioned in one of my earlier post here that these days I am looking for movies where only one song has been posted so far. In my daily browsing of the blog while I have already noted some movies, new surprises keep coming e.g. the time-lag between posting of the first song of the movie and thereafter posting of the second song. While we can understand a couple of year time-lag is considerable some have to wait for their second song almost more than five to six years or even ten years as we have seen during posting of ‘blog ten-year challenge song’. Well, if that was not enough, I have found a movie with a song posted in 2008 and still waiting for its second song to be posted on the blog. 😊

31/10/2020 – Remembrance day of S D Burman
————————————————————————
Sab kahan kuchh laala-o-gul mein numaayan ho gayin
Khaak mein kya sooratien hongi jo pinhaan ho gayin
Yesterday I was at the farewell function for officers retiring in my office. Many people were there, and the officers were felicitated with customary shawl and coconut, bouquet and token gifts etc. All attendees were wearing masks and photos were clicked. While all this was going on, there flashed the second line of the above sha’ir by Ghalib. With a change of one word, the sha’ir perfectly suits the situation, as is:
Sab kahan kuchh laala-o-gul mein numaayan ho gayin
“Mask” mein kya sooratien hongi jo pinhaan ho gayin

We commemorated 114th birth anniversary of the Dada Burman or Burman Da, as he was affectionately called by colleagues and friends, senior and juniors alike, a month ago. Now it is his 45th death anniversary today. He formed an immortal dynasty with son R. D. Burman, which is unparalleled. As a father, he is bound to have a bigger hand in forming RDB, the musical phenomena than vice versa.

Tanvir Naqvi – 48th Death Anniversary on 01/11/2020
——————————————————————
Geet
————
Kahaan tak sunoge kahan tak sunaaun
Hazaaron hi shikwe hain kya kya sunaaun
Huzoor aap par ek jahaan ki nazar hai
Nigaah-e-karam se bhi mujh ko ye dar hai
Jahaan ki nazar mein kahin aa na jaaun
Kahaan tak sunoge kahaan tak sunaaun
Zamaana huaa hai muhe muskuraaye
Muhobbat mein kya kya hain sadme utthaaye
Kise yaad rakkhoon kise bhool jaaun
Hazaaron hi shikwe hain kya kya sunaaun

Today’s song is from the film Bhaichara aka Fraternity aka Brotherhood-1943. It was produced by Unity Productions, Calcutta and was directed by a veteran of Silent films- G.K.Mehta.
Gopal Krishna or G.K.Mehta was born on 18-7-1899 and he joined the film industry in 1920. He slogged in the film companies doing odd jobs and finally started directing films from 1928 onwards. By 1931, the Talkie had started and Mehta, after 15 silent films to his credit, directed his first Talkie film-” Chirag E Husn”-1935. Then came Ghazi Diler-36, Toofani khazana-37, Prem samadhi-38, Master Man-38, Juwari-39 and his last film was Bhaichara-1943. He directed Leela Chitnis in film Master man-38, Jairaj and Nirmala in Juwari-39Bharat Bhushan in his second film in Bhaichara-43. Like many other silent film stalwarts like R S Chaudhuri (8-6-1903 to 22-8-1972) with 15 silent and 14 Talkie films, G K Mehta also disappeared without a trace.
