Today’s song is from the first decade of the Talkie i.e. the 1930’s. The film is Mera Ladka-1938. Made by Prabhat Film company, Poona, it was directed by a person who wrote his name in the most unconventional way – K.Narayan Kale. His actual name was Keshav Narayan Kale. Instead of the usual custom like Keshav N. Kale, he hid his own name and gave prominence to his father’s name ! This radical journalist’s life was full of ” in and out”of the film industry !

Many film artists – actors, singers, directors etc – have written their autobiography. If you take a look at all these, the females have more autobios than the males, for reasons not known to me. In my last few years of activity in the arena of old films, I have collected many books and have received many books as ‘Gifts’ from the authors. Among these, there are many autobios, including the autobio of C Ramchandra, music director of today’s film Sipahiya-1949.

The 10 songs were written by Chaturvedi(40, Arzu Lucknowi (20, Raj Kunwar (2) and 1 each by Rajendra krishna and Vanvasi. The cast of the film was Madhubala, Agha, Yaqub, Husn Banu, Altaf, Kanhaiyalal, Jillo Bai, Ameerbaiu and many others.

The music was by C.Ramchandra and the songs were written by P.L.Santoshi (4 songs), Nakshab Jarachavi (2 songs), A.Shah Shikarpuri, Gulshan Jalalabadi and Raja Mehdi Ali Khan 1 song each. The film cast consisted of Nimmi, Veena, Jairaj, Ram Singh, Sapru, Gulab, Ramesh Sinha, jankidas, Baby Tabassum and many others. The banner Mohan Pictures was owned by Ramnik Shah (husband of actress Indurani). Director Nanubhai Vakil was his Saadu (Co-Brother) who was husband of Indurani’s sister- Sarojini.

Today’s song is from a Mythological film- Navratri-1955.
The word ‘Navratri’ evokes memories of the festive atmosphere of Dussehra and the following fun days of Diwali, just about 3 weeks ahead. During our childhood, this was the time to buy new clothes or something which the parents had promised to give us at Diwali time. In the evening a gang of surrounding friends used to go visiting our friends in other areas. Meeting elders and seeking their blessings was mandatory.

This is my 1500th article on this Blog !
It’s difficult for me to believe that in a span of 148 months or 4440 days I wrote 1500 articles on one Blog alone. Articles written on other Blogs and sites are not included in this. Those are about 200. Add to it my 9 books already published (5 Solo and 4 co-authored). Over 500 film reviews and comments on this and other Blogs which are about 700 +. Being a methodical person, I have kept records of all these. Learning ABCD of work on Computers at the age of 70 years, I could do all this at this age is the Greatest Blessing of the Almighty. Thanks to Him !
