Shikari (1963) was a B-movie, starring Ajit and Ragini. I had the pleasure of watching it a few months ago and I must say I thoroughly enjoyed it. It is a typical jungle adventure story with the necessary ingredients of tigers, gorillas and such. This may not be to everybody’s taste but I do enjoy such movies, even at this age. 😉

Laagi chhoote naa ab to sanam

I have mentioned it that this blog has songs from nearly 1000 Hindi movies as of now. The list of moviewise songs that I have provided gives us a good idea of the songs that have been posted. With time, I have posted all the songs from some movies- viz “Barsaat”(1949), “Dholak”(1950), “Madhumati” (1958) etc. In case of other movies, I am gradually building up the list song by song.

The initial movies of Raj Kapoor were made with Raj Kapoor as hero and Nargis/Vyjyanti Mala/Padmini etc as leading lady. And in these movies Shankar Jaikishan would compose the music. This combination was repeated till “Mera Naam Joker” (1970). This movie flopped big time and Raj Kapoor found himself on the verge of bankruptcy.

When I was growing up in the early 70s, Kishore was easily the dominant male voice in Bollywood. He was everywhere and with every new movie he seemed to only deliver more hits.

Manoj Kumar who played a patriotic Indian named “Bharat” in his movies from late 1960s onwards played a different “Non-Bharat” kind of role in “Beimaan” (1972). Beimaan means Dishonest and Manoj KUmar played the title role in this movie.

“Anpadh” (1962) is known as a movie that contained a couple of immortal ghazals that earned Madan Mohan the sobriquet of “Ghazal King” from Lata and earned high praise from Naushad who opined that these two ghazals was equal to all the musical creations of Naushad. Coming from Lata and Naushad, that was high praise indeed.

Today (24th August,2010) is the Indian festival of rakshabandhan, or Raakhi in brief. This is a festival when sisters tie Raakhi on the wrists of their brothers and the brother then vows to protect his sister.
