I could call it a bathroom song, because the lady is actually taking bath in this song. But the technical problem is, she is taking bath not inside the bathroom, but in the open, and some people may say she is actually swimming. But more like she is frolicking in water to her heart’s content. So I have decided to call it a waterfall song instead.

When I first saw the video of this song, I was scandalised. Then I realised that Vyjyantimala was in fact wearing body coloured clothes, but still her dress must have been regarded as provocative by the censors those days. Or may be not, seeing that few people thronged to watch this movie.

Rajshri Productions movies of 1970s tended to have their music ( as well as lyrics) by Ravindra Jain, till Ram Laxman took over in 1980s. In that respect, “Uljhan”, a 1975 Rajshri Productions movie was an exception. Its music was composed by Kalyanji Anandji whereas M G Hashmat was the lyricist.

When an aged couple want to reminisce on their good old days, what do they do ? they look at old sepia tones photographs in old albums. but when it comes to filmy couples viz Dharmendra and Hema Malini, or Rishi Kapoor and Neetu Singh, all they need to do is watch their old movies.

This song is among the most difficult songs that has been sung in Bollywood movies. For one, the singers are called upon to sing in a wide range of frequencies, and secondly, it is a semi classical song, where one needed to sing not just one raag, but as many as four raagas. Yes it is true. This song as raag Sohini, raag Bahaar, raag Jaunpuri and raag Yaman in it.

“Pagla Kahin Ka” was one Shammi Kapoor movie that came at the fag end of his career as a Hero. It was a movie where he did not play his usual flamboyant roles, but here he was a mortal with human frailties.
