Today’s song is from film ‘Bhedi Bangla’ (1949). This film was produced by Anand Subramanyam, under the banner of Jagriti films, owned by Master Bhagwan. The story, dialogues and songs were by Ehsaan Rizvi and music was by P Ramakant. This was a name used by C Ramchandra, because he was under contract with Filmistan and could not give music in his own name. It started with Raja Nene’s film Shadi Se Pehle’ in 1947, in which he first used his assistant’s name Paingankar (the joint MD was Karnad). His name was Ramakant Paingankar and was assisting Chitalkar for a long time. Later, for Bhagwan’s films like ‘Bhedi Bangla’, ‘Bhole Bhale’ (1949), ‘Babuji’ (1950), and ‘Bakshish’ (1950) also, Chitalkar used the pseudo name P Ramakant as MD (information from Marathi Chitrapat Sangeetkar Kosh by Madhu Potdar).

What a wonderful gem of a song this one is. The memory banks hold this from the radio listening days. Such a beautiful semi-classical creation, and also very popular in its time – I am amazed it has waited so long in the wings to make its place here on our blog.

Hullo to all of Atuldom
I seem to be running short of time daily. And I have missed many dates in the month of DECEMBER for which I would have loved to atleast write out the lyrics and send it to Atulji for appropriate posts. Birthdates of Shatrughan Sinha, Dilip Kumar, Rajnikant, Raj Kapoor, Om Prakash, Govinda, Anil Kapoor, Salman Khan etc. I even had songs of Suresh Oberoi, Mahipal, John Abraham ready in my head. Atulji surprised me by nearly missing Mohd. Rafi’s birthdate, but trust the eternal Rafi Bhakts in our group to send in posts on time and remind Atulji (he always tells that he is bad at remembering dates 🙂 🙂 ).

Hullo to Atuldom
At the outset let me wish our friend of Atuldom “A very Happy Birthday” and lotsa of love and joy forever. Let her always be a mystery (paheli); atleast till I meet her personally. But from accounts about her that Sudhirji had once shared on the blog and Atulji’s had written in his post I am very eager to meet her. Till then I will be content with the occasional telephonic chat or WhatsApp masti that we indulge in. Wish you a very Happy Birthday Khyatiji. Have a great day musical day.

I in this blog often talk about “natural” landmarks and “artificial” landmarks for the blog. “Natutral” landmaks for the blog are those that are intuitive, viz. century of songs in the blog, and later century of songs in the blog for an artist, a contributor etc.
Later, when we began to keep track of blog related statistics, we became aware when a duo of singers completed their century of duet songs, or the blog itself completed a century (or its multiple) of days.
Many of these “artificial” (more accurately “derived” or “secondary”) landmarks went unnoticed in the early days of the blog. For instance, we completed several hundred days and also thousand days in the blog but we remain blissfully unaware. In fact, the level of blissful unawareness was such that we did not even notice it when the blog completed one year of its existence on 19 july 2009. 🙂
We have come a long way since.
