Today (18 september) is the birthday of Shabana Azmi. Daughter of Kaifi Azmi and Shaukat Azmi, Shabana Azmi made her debut in arts movies in early 1970s. after a few years, she made it to the mainstream movies. She was a misfit in the usual leading lady kind of singing dancing roles, but she was good in roles that required some real acting. and she got roles that exploited her acting ability.

Very little is known about music director Ram Laxman. Initially there were two of them, viz Ram Kadam and Vijay Patil who composed music as Ram Laxman. Ram Kadam died in 1976. But Vijay Patil continued to compose music as Ram Laxman. In fact, most well known movies with music by Ram Laxman came after 1976 when it was Vijay Patil alone composing music as Ram Laxman. Movies like “Maine Pyaar Kiya” (1989) and “Hum Aapke Hain Kaun”(1994) are the compositions of Ram Laxman.

Din ba din wo mere dil se

Movies can be on many topics and it is not necessary that they should all be made on the prevalent mainstream subject of that era. But this fact was not known to movie goers or even to movie critics in the past decades. People would go to the movie hall with pre conceived notions of what the movie should be like and they would be disappointed if the movie had a different story line. There were Amitabh Bachchan movies in late 1970s and late 1980s where movie goers went expecting a dhishum dhishum fare but were extremelyt disappointed on finding that the movie had no fight scenes, and worse, Amitabh Bachchan was shown as a mortal rather than one who could singlehandedly taken on lots of baddies.

“Kahaani Ham Sab Ki”(1973) was produced and directed by Raj Kumar Kohli. The movie had Mala Sinha, Lalita Pawar, Aruna Irani, Roopesh kumar,Jagdeep, Om Prakash, Arun Chopra, Vinod Mehra, Abhi Bhattacharya,Madan Puri,Vimi, Archana etc in it. This movie, going by its star cast was smaller budget movie that few people, including myself, knew much about.
