Today’s song is from the film ‘Anaath Ashram’ (1937). This film was made by New Theaters, Calcutta.
During the period from 1931 to 1955. New Theaters was one of the premiere film production companies of India. This was not only a commercial organization, but also a school for developing new talents in the fields of acting, direction, cinematography, editing, sound recording, costume designing and other departments of film making. Almost all who learnt from here, became big names in their later careers. It was here that the artists were encouraged to become editors from cinematographers, and directors from editors. Names like Nitin Bose and Bimal Roy are enough to prove this point.

Hullo Atuldom
There is this gorgeous lady who made her debut into the Hindi film industry in a title role; the movie released on 28th September 1973. That film was commercially successful, went on to win five awards in that year’s Filmfare Awards. It helped the film’s producer- director come out of debts which he had incurred with his previous magnum-opus debacle. The content of this film was the typical Romeo-Juliet kind of romance, presented in a new style; but the commercial success was attributed to the two-fresh-faced-delightful youngsters who emoted on-screen with ease. Small wonder that they won that year’s Best Actor & Best Actress Filmfare awards.

Today’s song is from an old film ‘Ek Hi Raasta’ (1939).
This film was made by Sagar Movietone and was directed by a young Mehboob Khan. This was his last film with Sagar, because after this Sagar was merged with National studios and later on it was closed down forever. This proves that generally, family enterprises where it is a one man show, be it films or politics, does not last long. If the enterprise does not adapt to changes or does not learn from its mistakes, its downfall is sure. Mehboob Khan grew big with Sagar. Mehboob was influenced by Nehru’s ideology and was his staunch supporter. It was a coincidence that Nehru died in the afternoon of 27th May 1964 and within 12 hours, Mehboob Khan too died in the early hours of 28th May 1964.

Hullo Atuldom
Back after a gap of around one & half months.
Have been so active, doing various other activities, that for the first time, since 2009 (when I discovered the blog) and 2012 (when my first post appeared on the blog), I missed a few milestones (the 17,700th post) on the day it was posted. Also missed a post by Sudhir ji, which featured a song which I simply love to see “Wo Ladki Hai Kahaan“.

Today’s song is from an obscure film called ‘Room No. 17’ from 1961.
This film is categorized as a ‘social’ film in the HFGK. I wonder on what basis it can be called a ‘social’ film. What I understand by ‘social’ category is when the film revolves around a family problem or a social custom. If not that, then at least the film should show a relationship crisis or an age old social evil or even a simple family dispute. But this film is nothing like this. The film story has 4 murders, 2 accidents, kidnapping, police encounter and multiple attacks by criminals. Embedded in all this there is a love story and a murder mystery. In my opinion, the film should have been classified either as a stunt/action film or a crime/mystery film.

Today’s song is a special song from the film ‘Captain India’ (1960).
Our regular readers may recall that just a few days ago, within this month, 2 songs having the same mukhda with different lyrics were posted on this Blog. The mukhda was “Nacho, Nacho, Nacho”. The first song to appear was from the dubbed film – ‘RRR’ (2022), which was posted and discussed superbly by our friend Gajendra Khanna ji on 3-4-2023. The second song with the same mukhda was from the film ‘Gogola’ (1966) and was posted and discussed by me on 17-4-2023.

‘Dhoop Chhaaon’ (1977) was a movie produced by KK Jain & SN Jain and directed by Prahlad Sharma for Trishul Arts. It had Hema Malini, Yogita Bali, Shaukat Kaifi Azmi, Sanjeev Kumar, Om Shivpuri, Nasir Hussain, Gajanan Jagirdar, Yunus Parvez, Dinesh Hingoo etc in the cast. Lyricists used were Virendra Mishra, Vitthalbhai Patel, Vishweshwar Sharma and Kaifi Azmi.
