EID MUBARAK to all our readers, wherever they are on this Globe. Today is a Happy day for the celebrations.
Having grown up in HYDERABAD-the Muslim state of the Nizam- in the 40s,( Hyderabad was annexed to India in 1948,after Patel’s ‘Police Action’), I have very fond memories of Eid. Though Hyderabad merged with India, It was an independent state till 1-11-1956, therefore the Muslim customs, manners, festivals, education and Eating habits continued to have a major influence on Hyderabad public. (In Nov 1956, Hyderabad was Trifurcated. 5 districts of Marathwada merged with Bombay state, 3 Kannada speaking districts merged with Karnataka and remaining 8 Telugu speaking districts merged into the newly formed Andhra Pradesh.( and again now these 8 districts are separating from Andhra Pradesh to form Telangana State !).

Of late, my guest posts here have been infrequent. And have almost always been for a particular occasion – an anniversary or blog milestone. Regulars here have brought this to my notice, saying that I should post more frequently and not just on occasions. I’m flattered and honoured that they like reading my posts. So a big thank you to all of them. I’m always happy to do a write-up here on this beloved blog – and if it’s been only on special occasions so far, it’s purely coincidental.
