Today’s song is a comedian’s song from an old Religious film Raja Gopichand-1938. Films with the same title were made in 1930, 1938 and 1950 (as Alakh Niranjan).
The film was made by Saraswati Cinetone, Poona. It was directed by Bhal G. Pendharkar and the Music Director was C.Balaji aka Balaji Chougule. The film was made in Hindi and Marathi. The story was written by Bhal G. Pendharkar and the translation was done by Shri. Arun B.A. The cast included Chandrakant, Leela Chandragiri, Ratnaprabha, Dinkar Kamanna, Londhe, Usha, Bakula, Ramaa, Dongre, Danve and others.

Mukesh and his Co-Singers –19
In today’s post on Mukesh and his co-singers, we take up one of the two songs that he sang with playback singer Bela Saaver (Saver). In one of my recent posts, I have requested readers to add more information on this singer. There have been no responses yet.
My own efforts are also not yielding a decent bio-post on her. She has given playback in films like Basti aur Bazaar (1973), Phir Aaya Toofan (1973), Gora Baboo (1976) etc. There are also quite a few NF ghazals and devotional songs sung by her.

Today’s song is from an old comedy social film – Do Deewane-1936. The film was made by Sagar Movietone.
The film cast included Motilal, Shobhana Samarth, Yakub, Aruna Devi, Sankata Prasad, Bhudo Advani and others. The name of Aruna Devi may be a new one for many. She started acting in films with the film Village Girl-36. The same year, she also acted in Mard ka Bacha, Lagna Bandhan,Do Deewane and Deccan Queen ( she did a double role in this film. She also sang 2 songs in this film.) and in 1938 she acted in her last film Asha-38. After this she got married to a businessman Mr. Nanavati and settled in England- ending her very short career as an actress.

Today’s song is from an early era film – Jailor-1938.
1938 was an interesting year in the early life of the Talkie films. The film making studios had firm footing with a studio system and they tried a variety of subjects in their films. In the 88 Hindi films produced in 1938, one finds almost every Genre of film subjects, except perhaps the usual Folk stories and Historical themes. Comedy, Tragedy, Fiction, Jungle stories, Costume, Socials, Musicals, Mythologicals, you name it and you had it. Content and technical expertise had improved as films on famous novels were made.
