Today’s song is from an obscure film – Char minar-1956. Though the 50s decade was known for entertaining, Mythological and musical films, there were also plenty of ordinary films, lacking in content, star power and good music. Such films just came and went without leaving any trace. But these lacklustre films actually gave enhanced importance to memorable films.
Char Minar-56 was a Nagina film presentation (which was owned by Ravindra Dave, the Director of Nageena-51. After this film’s tremendous success he opted for its name for his company). The film was produced and directed by Ravindra Dave. Not only that, the assistant director was Narendra Dave, Assistant Photographers were Pratap Dave and Arvind Dave, Assistant Editor was Balwant Dave and the production manager was Surendra Dave. It looked like an employment exchange for Dave’s family !

‘Shehar Se Door’ or ‘Shahar Se Door’ was directed by Chaman Nille for ‘Maya Deep International, Bombay’. It had Subhash Ghai, Neena, Heena Kausar, Roopesh Kumar, Nadira, Johny Walker, Raj Mehra, Krishan Dhawan, Anita Guha, V. Gopal, Jankidas, Uma Dhawan, Uma Khosla, Jerry, Monto, Satya Devi, Madhu Kapoor, Tarun Bose and others.

The music was by Dada Chandekar, who was a regular with Master Vinayak, for his Hindi and Marathi films. The cast of the film was Meenakshi Shirodkar, Vinayak, Master Vithal, Lalita Pawar, Baburao Pendharkar, Dada Salvi, Damuanna Malvankar, Vishnupant Jog etc. The cameraman was Pandurang Naik, one of the owners of Navyug, along with Baburao, PK Atre and Vinayak, of course.

The film was made by National Studios and it was directed by Mehboob. The Music Director was Anil Biswas. As a team they had worked in 8 films together, at a stretch. The story of the film was by Zia Sarhadi. Screenplay and dialogues were by Wajahat mirza. The cast of the film included Shaikh Mukhtar, Nalini Jaywant, Harish, Kanhaiyalal, Husn banu, Shehzadi jr., Baby Meena (Meena Kumari), Bhudo Advani and many others. At the time of this film, Nalini Jaywant was only 14 year old, running into 15th year. As a girl child, her role was done by Meena Kumari as Baby Meena. She was 7 year old then.

‘Raeeszaada’ (1976) was produced by V L Khare and was directed by Raja Thakur, The cast included Vikram and Zarina Wahab in lead roles supported by Dr Shreeram Lagoo, Rakesh Roshan, Kunwar Ajit (Ajit Singh Deol), Bhushan Tiwari, Pratima Devi, Vijay Khare, Randhir, Mushtaq Merchant, Master Kiran, Helen, Baldev Khosa (guest appearance), Sanjana (guest appearance) etc. I do not remember to have heard this film though I was aware of ‘Raeeszaada’ (1990).

Today’s song is from the movie ‘Five Rifles-1974’. I had presented a song from this movie on the blog long time back.
This is a special movie from my childhood days for people of my age group. I was just above six years old when this movie was released. I must have watched this movie with my parents or elders in the family.
The two things that stayed in my mind from this movie were monkeys with rifles and the iconic qawwaalee in the mesmerizing voice of Aziz Nazan. I also recall reading about this film that look-alikes of Rajesh Khanna and Shashi Kapoor were used in this film.

Sona is Gold. It is a very valuable and costly metal. But Hindi filmmakers did not think so, as films with Titles having the word Sona are only 2. One is today’s film and the other was Sona Chandi-1946. There were 11 film titles starting with the words Sone Ki, Ka, Pe etc. There was one film Chandi Sona in 1977. IMDB details say that the film Sona-1948 was one of the Hit films of 1948.

‘Dukh Sukh-1974’ was directed by Majid Maqbool for ‘Nausheen Films, Bombay’. This movie had Sandeep Kumar, Shreedevi (I am not aware if she is the same Sreedevi that we know), Chaand, Majid Maqbool, Farshori, Swaroop, Shams, Lalitashri, Jyoti, Chandermohan, Revati, Hafeez, Khan, Pritam, Vijaya and others. As per HFGK Vol – V (1971-1980) this movie had five songs written by Javed Qadri and composed to music by Vitthal-Mumtaz. Geet Kosh has left space indicating more songs might have been recorded for this movie. The singers for the five songs listed in Geet Kosh are Manna Dey, Shashilata Virk, Mohd Rafi, Asha Bhonsle, and Krishna Kalle.
