In my younger days, K L Saigal was a “boring” singer, but now I can not have enough of K L Saigal songs. I find listening to K L Saigal songs a divine experience these days, as it reminds me of those days several decades ago, when most radios in India would play radio Ceylon in early mornings. 7-30 to 8 AM was the most “boring” period on Radio Ceylon, as it was during this time that “puraani filmon ke geet” were played, culminating into a K L Saigal song as the last song.

“Dr Kotnis Ki Amar Kahaani”(1946) is based on the real life story of an Indian doctor called Dr Dwarkanath Kotnis, who went to China and served the Chinese patients during the second China-Japan war in 1938. He is held in high regards by the Chinese people. He stayed in China till 1942, when he died of epilepsy. He was only 32 at that time.

“Darogaa jee” (1949) is a movie that had Jairaj (playing the title role),Nargis,Neelam Mishra,M L Bohra, Nisaar etc in it.The movie has been forgotten, but that has not stopped me from discussing as many as two songs from this movie in the past.

Here is a wonderful song that I discovered just now. To be honest I had discovered it some one year back but I had not listened to it and then I had forgotten all about it. Just now I listened to this song and I was amazed at how modern this song sounds even today, even though it is a song from as far back as 1942.

When I listened to “Puraani Filmon Ke Geet” programme of Radio Ceylon in 1970s between 7-30 AM to 8 AM, the last song of the programme was reserved for K L Saigal. Now that I think about it, there were a few standard K L Saigal songs that were recycled repeatedly in this programme. I have a feeling that all the K L Saigal songs that were played in that programme have been covered in this blog. I am now in fact covering those K L Saigal songs that are lesser known and which were rarely played in the above mentioned programme .
