“Sanskaar”(1952) was produced and directed by V M Vyas for Sunrise Pictures, Bombay. This social movie had Mumtaz Shanti, Purnima, Veera, Pran, Razi, Shashi Kapoor, Ishwar lal, Mirza Musharraf, Murad, Kalyani, Pappu, Baby Naaz, Indira Mumtaz etc in it.

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2010-2020) – Song No. 96

25 November 2010, the date exactly ten years ago was a day when six songs were covered in the blog. But unlike earlier months of the year when all six or seven songs got covered before 10 AM, this day was a struggle. The first article (post number 3251) was posted at 8:39 AM. The sixth and final post of the day appeared in the evening at 7:44 PM. So it was a struggle, rather than a breeze, to publish the day’s quota of songs on this day ten years ago.
Here is the list of six songs that were posted on 25 November 2010:-

“Insaan-1952” was directed by Jagdish Sethi for ‘New Social Theatre Limited, Bombay’. It was produced by J.G. Mohla. This movie had Prithviraj Kapoor, Ragini, Kamal Kapoor, K.N. Singh, Kukku, Kanhaiyalal, Rajkumar, Ramesh Thakar, Chamanpuri, Baby Nazar, Roopmala, Urvashi, Naaz and others.

Yearwise discussion of Lata Mangeshkar songs in HFM: Part IX: Year 1955

In this episode, we arrive at the tenth year of Lata Mangeshkar as a playback singer in Hindi movies. She completed a decade of playback singing in HFM this year. She had already notched some firsts in HFM playback singing that did not get noticed at that time. For instance, she had become the first playback singer ever to sing more than one thousand songs in Hindi movies by 1954. She kept setting benchmarks that others could only dream of. I notice that only 198 articles were posted in the blog during the first four months of the year 2010. Still, by the end of end of October 2010, the blog had already added just over one thousand posts during the year 2010 ! That was because the blog had picked up pace from July to September 2010, when 481 posts were published in these three months !

Bhaari bhaari meena kumari
ghar mein jaa ke maara maari
This was the sales pitch sh’air by some urchins in Mumbai local trains, selling small items like hairbands, hair clips, fancy earrings, finger rings and combs etc. I have had an highly educating experience of travelling in local trains on regular basis from 1988 to 1994, during peak hours, traversing the length and breadth of Mumbai on central, western and harbor lines. The sales pitch and the bol bachchan street seller’s ingenuity in using colourful simile’s, in the present song reminded me of the long forgotten ditty above. (bhaari means costly or rich in mumbaiyya)
