“Chattan Singh”(1974) was directed by Kedar Kapoor for Anubhav Films, Bombay. This “social” film had Premnath, Vinod Mehra, Yogita Bali, Ajeet (special appearance), Aruna Irani, Raj Tilak, Roopesh Kumar, Chandrashekhar, Urmila Bhatta, Rammohan, Tiwari, Sundar, Mohan Choti, Jagdish Raj, Indu Mehta, Prakash Gill, Jayshree T, Rajkumar, Randheer, Suhail, Shera, Shivraj, Mahinder, Bhanumati, Nima, Bachchan Singh, Amar Singh, Sagar Sharma, Bhupendra etc. Child artists Shailesh, Arif, Raka, Ripple, Guddu and Baby Nisha were also there in the movie.

There are certain songs which leave a deep impression on your young mind. Some may leave a wonderful feeling or a bitter one, an emotional one or a physical one, etc. This song reminds me of a very dear friend who was also my classmate during my formative years (Intermediate and Bachelor’s degree).
This friend, we shall call him Sanjay, had a very strong liking to Kishore Kumar songs, while I had a strong affinity to the songs sung by Mohd Rafi saab. Similarly, he liked R D Burman’s compositions while I loved Laxmikant Pyarelal’s compositions. He had a special liking for tall, dark and handsome actors (Amitabh/Mithun C/Mahendra Sandhu/etc) while I preferred Fair skinned handsome heroes (Shashi/Rishi Kapoors/etc). But the competitive spirit never came in the way of our friendship. We used to be always together in anything and everything. We had a hell of a friendship going on for 5 years.

Title of this post suggests that the song with this post is a ‘Qawwali’ song. It is not a popular or block-buster qawwali, but a lesser known and lesser heard song which you can sometimes get to listen to on Vividh Bharati (AIR). This song is from the ‘1978’ movie ‘Daada’. It was mentioned by me earlier while presenting another song from this movie that I have vague memories of watching this movie with my parents and younger brothers. I didn’t remember this movie much except for a few of its songs.

Today’s song is from the 1977 movie ‘Qasam Khoon Ki’ or ‘Kasam Khoon Ki’. This song stood at no. 37 in the ‘annual Binaca Geetmala’ of the year 1977. That is the reason for this post here.
Though this song figured in the Binaca geetmala final, I have no recollections of either the movie or this song. The other reason for ‘liking’the song is its lyrics that talks of bringing down the soaring price of gold. 🙂 . I have no idea if the suggestion made in this song can be used to bring down the price of gold. The main customer of gold, viz women too are unlikely to take the suggestion contained in the song any serious thought.
