When I was in school, I did not see a single movie in a movie hall for six years. It was more by compulsion rather than by choice, of course. People would go to the movie hall with pre conceived notions of what the movie should be like and they would be disappointed if the movie had a different story line. There were Amitabh Bachchan movies in late 1970s and late 1980s where movie goers went expecting a dhishum dhishum fare but were extremelyt disappointed on finding that the movie had no fight scenes, and worse, Amitabh Bachchan was shown as a mortal rather than one who could singlehandedly taken on lots of baddies.
