“Ye Nazdeekiyaan” (1982) was a parallel cinema, as small budget small time movies used to be described those days. I had actually watched this movie which has otherwise ended by being a forgotten movie. This movie was produced and directed by Vinod Pande. The movie had Marc Zubeir, Shabana Azmi, Parveen Babi,Neena Gupta, Vinod Pande, Sudhir Pandey,Mala Jaggi, Bharathi Achrekar, Nitin Sethi,Col.Kapoor,Sunil Lahiri. In addition,friendly appearances were made in the movie by Kaifi Azmi,Shekhar Kapoor, Bijoya Jena, Baby Savari,Ravi Mishra,Helena Luke, J.P.Dixit,Dinesh Kaushik etc.

“Shriman Shrimati” (1982) was produced by B Nagi Reddy and directed by Vijaya Reddy for Vijoaya Productions Private Limited. Or to put it briefly, this movie was a production from the publishers of “Chandamama”- the Children’s magazine that used to get published in some 14 languages during those days !

It is with mixed emotions that I write this post.
No, it’s not quite what you’re thinking. Usually “mixed emotions” involve an element of happiness, tempered with sadness. Like parents sending their son or daughter abroad for higher studies. On one hand, they’re happy for their child’s future, on the other there’s an element of sadness that they will be separated by a considerable amount of distance and time.

Ajit Verman is today’s (26 march 2014) 67 year old birthday boy (DOB 26 march 1947). I found from Wikipedia that he started his career as a musician for the likes of Satyajit Ray, Mrinal Sen, Pankaj Mullick and Salil Chaudhary etc in Kolkata. And also Shankar Jaikishan and Laxmi Pyare in Mumbai in the 70s.

Screenplay of this movie was written by Vijay Tendulkar, the famous Marathi playwright. The movie was directed by Jabbar Patel. The movie had Smita Patil, Girish Karnaad, Daya Dongre, Srikant Moghe, Ashalatha Wabgaonkar, Ravi Patwardhan, Kusum Kulkarni, Purnima Ganu, Surekha Diwaakar etc.
