Khalid Mohamed, the journalist, the film critic, the former editor of Filmfare magazine and The Hindustan Times, started his career in Hindi film industry when he wrote the story and screenplay for Shyam Benegal’s trilogy on Indian Muslim Women – Mehmooda Begum in ‘Mammo’ (1994), ‘Sardari Begum’ (1996) and Zubeida Begum in ‘Zubeida (2001). All these three women were the relatives of Khalid Mohamed, Zubeida Begum being his mother. After working with Shyam Benegal, Khalid Mohamed turned director with his first film, ‘Fiza’ (2000). This was followed by ‘Tehzeeb’ (2003) and ‘Silsilay’ (2005). While ‘Fiza’ (2000) was a box office hit, his next two films were box office disasters. The last film he directed was ‘Katha’ – a remake of ‘Katha’ (1983) which has remained unreleased after the completion of the film in 2016.

The other day when this song from the film Takshak(1999) appeared in the blog, it invoked memories of another film song of the same actors, a similar dance song, where Tabu is dancing with a group of girls, in day light this time. The song is from the film “Vijaypath”(1994), already posted in the blogAaiye aapka intezaar thhaa.

# Desh ki mitti ki khushboo #

Welcome all to this post under the title ‘Desh Ki Mitti Ki Khushboo’ after a very long gap.
The following three posts were presented on the blog under this caption earlier.
| S No | Song | Date of post |
|---|---|---|
| 1) | Ek thhi maa punyakoti | 14 January 2015 |
| 2) | Sangam mein nahaa lo aur punya kamaa lo | 8 february 2016 |
| 3) | Arun Kiran Sheesh Bhushan | 20 february 2016 |
However this series then went on backburner. When I went abroad for a project assignment for almost three years, this series totally lost its way among other priorities/posts.

In my wish-list of ‘movies with same titles’ there are still many movies that are yet to be introduced on the blog. One can definitely say that this list is surely going to be a long list.
Today we get introduced to the movie ‘Gumraah-1976’. It will be joining the better known ‘Gumraah’ of ‘1963’ on the blog.

In this article, I propose to explore two films – ‘Duvidha’ (1973) directed by Mani Kaul and ‘Paheli’ (2005) directed by Amol Palekar. Both these films are based on a short story, ‘Duvidha’ by the writer of Rajasthani literature and Sahitya Akademy Award winner, Vijaydan Detha (popularly known as ‘Bijji’). Bijji wrote the short story in 1958 by using a verbally transmitted Rajasthani folktale to convey a bride’s silent defiance of the prevailing patriarchal system by embracing a ghost as her husband when her real husband leaves for a faraway town on business for 5 years, two days after the marriage. The defiance came from the fact that her husband did not take into consideration his wife’s emotional needs while taking this decision. The author has used the metaphor of the ghost through which the wife’s silent revolt occurs.

“Today’s article is inspired from a real-life story and is based on real life experiences happening in our day to day life”
Any ‘resemblance’ of the story/character mentioned in the article is much expected (and is not a mere ‘coincidence’) with ‘everyman’/ ‘everywoman’s life especially who have been ‘immersed’ in love sometime in their life, and/or could not turned into a lifetime relationship.
Some of them could be ‘Hindi movie buffs’ and lovers of HFM (especially the songs of love –and songs of milan and judaai etc etc.) for which the author should not be held responsible or criticized or punished in ‘any’ form 🙂

Tribute to Lata Mangeshkar – 3
From where can one start talking of Lata Mangeshkar, from the ‘carefree’ Hawa mein udtaa jaaye, to the restless Jiya bekaraar hai, to the idealistic “ham ne dekhi hai unn aankhon ki mehekti khushoo”, to the itthlati/itraati “bindiya chamkegi’/ ’koyi shehri babu dil lehri babu’, to pensive “rahen na rahen ham’, to the patient “ab to hai tum se’ mischievous “baahon mein chale aao’, to the mysterious ‘naina barse’/“lag ja gale” , to the despairing ‘jo ham ne daastaan apni sunaayi’, to the unabashed “kaanton se kheench kar yeh aanchal” & “ab ke sajan saawan mein” & “nainon mein badra chhaye”, to the resigned “duniya mein aisa kahan sab ka naseeb hai”, to sad “duniya mein ham aayen hai to” & ‘bekas pe karam keejiye”, & “Raja ki aayegi baraat”….. the list will go on forever.
