Here is a fantastic song from “Gharonda”. Neither the movie, nor the song were mainstream ones by the standards of 1977, but this song and this movie struck the right chords in the hearts of the audience.

Though 1970 was a decade when action movies had begun to dominate, there were small time movie makers who produced small budget family entertainers sans fights and action. Rajshri Productions, the Basus ( Basu Bhattacharya and Chatterji), Hrishikesh Mukherji and some South India producers were the ones who produced such movies.
Though these movies lacked stars most of the time, but the music in these movies was of a high quality. Such movies and their music created their own niche market.

Another rare gem. This song from Doosra Aadmi is sung by comedian Deven Verma on himself, and the female voice is Pamela Chopra’s who was the wife of Yash Chopra, the maker of this movie.
The lyrics has a word like Sanwariya mentioned prominently. And guess what, Ranbir Kapoor whose debut movie was called “Sanwariya” was not born then, but one can clearly see Ranbir Kapoor connection in this song. His mother and father play the married couple in this song, as they did in many movies together at that time.

Yash Chopra had made a nice and different kind of movie called “Doosra Aadmi” in 1977. Rakhi had played the central character, whereas Shashi Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor played the two men in her life. It was a daring and controversial topic for a movie in those days, where Rakhi, whose boyfriend Shashi Kapoor dies, take up a job in Rishi Kapoor’s firm because he resembles Shashi and she sees Shashi in Rishi and wants to own him, even though Rishi ( much younger to her) is already married.

Rajesh Khanna had acted opposite many actresses right from seniors like Asha Parekh and Sharmila Tagore to his contemporaries like Hema Malini and Rekha as well as juniors like Shabana Azmi and Smita Patil. There are many Bollywood stars who have acted opposite their wives before marrying them. Rajesh Khanna did not acted against Dimple, but he did something rare. Before “Chitthi aayi hai” became the most popular “Chitthi” song, it was this song that was regarded as the last word among “Chitthi” songs. The present generation may not have heard of this song. Even people of my generation may have forgotten it, but I accidentally stumbled upon this song again. Wow, what a song it was ! I am sure people who have heard this song, as well as those who have not, will love to listen to this song.
