‘Parmaatmaa’ (1978) seems to be a forgotten film now. I do not remember to have heard the name of the film during my younger days. The film was produced by Kuljeet Pal under the banner of Parashakti Pictures and was directed by Chand. The star cast included Shatrughan Sinha and Rekha in the lead roles with Pradeep Kumar, Aruna Irani, Imtiaz Khan, Ranjeet, Dev Kumar, Jagdish Raj, Chand Usmani, Helen and Komilla Work in the supporting roles. Probably, this was Shatrughan Sinha’s first film in a lead role and that too the first time he paired with Rekha in a lead role. It appears that the film took a long time to get a theatrical release as I find that song album on LP was issued in 1976 and the film was released in November 1978.

Today 8th September’2024 is the 91st birth anniversary (born on 08.09.1933) of legendary singer Asha Bhonsle.
It is customary for us on this blog that we post songs related to the celebrity on the day and discuss about their filmography or biography. Today’s celebrity singer Asha Bhonsle is already a living legend and there is nothing new left for me to add as far as her biography or filmography is concerned. 2 December 2023 was the 9th Remembrance Day of Deven Verma (23/10/1937 – 02/12/2014) who had taken comical performances in Hindi films on a different level. Gulzar had said about Deven Verma that he was not a comedian but an actor. I think, he must have made this statement with his experience of working with him in ‘Angoor’ (1982). His performance was devoid of buffoonery but was loaded with gentle humour, wit, and pun. His wife, Roopa Ganguly had said that her husband was a witty person in his real life.

In Hindi film industry, there are some well-known cinematographers who have turned directors. Some of them had a successful stint as director while some had to revert to cinematography. A few of the names who graduated from cinematographer to director were Nitin Bose, Bimal Roy, Fali Mistry, Ravi Nagaich, Govind Nihalani, Santosh Sivan etc. Some of them worked simultaneously as a cinematographer and a director in some films.

Presenting a fun song to start the year. It is from the 14/11/1986 released “Insaaf Ki Awaaz”. It was directed by B. Gopal, who was essentially a director of Telugu films who had also directed two Hindi Films, the other being “Kanoon Apna Apna” (1989).
