Post “Anand”(1970) and “Mili” (1975),Hrishikesh Mukherji hit upon the formula of family comedy movies. In these movies, there would be an old fashioned strict patriarch/ matriarch who would regard himself as a know all and he would rule his joint family with an iron hand. The story of the movie would let movie goers have a laugh at the cost of that patriarch/ matriarch. This character was typically played by Om Prakash, Utpal Dutt, Dina Pathak etc.

“Poornima” (1965) was a Roopkala pictures production. It was directed by Narendra Suri. The movie had Meena Kumari, Dharmendra, Mehmood, Nazir Hussain, Parveen Choudhary, Siddhu, Raja Nene, Honey Irani, Babloo, Anita Guha, Durga Khote etc in it.

Yesterday (15 august 2012) was Indian Independence day. India had attained her independence on 15 august 1947.
By a unique coincidence, the Hindi movie actress Rakhi was born on that very day, viz 15 august 1947 ! Among all the midnight children (as Salman Rushdie would describe children born on that day in his best selling novel of the same name), Rakhi must be the most well known one. She is exactly of the same age as the nation of India !

Though “Ek Mahal Ho Sapnon Ka” (1975) is a recent movie by the standards of this blog, this movie is not all that well known today. Perhaps a TV serial of the same name has hijacked the title and that has pushed the information about the movie of 1975 back.

Today (21 july) is the birthday of Anand Bakshi (21 july 1920-30 march 2002). He was one of the most prolific lyricists in the annals of Hindi movie music. This blog has 466 songs written by him. The most prolific decade for Anand Bakshi was the decade of 1970s, which was also the decade that I grew up in.

“Ek Mahal Ho Sapnon Ka”(1975) was produced and directed by Devendra Goel. The movie had Ashok Kumar, Dharmendra, Sharmila Tagore, Leena Chandawarkar, Deven Verma, David, Ramesh Dev, Achala Sachdev, Sanjana, Asha Chandra, Brahmchaari, Birbal, Jagdish Raj, Hercules, Azad Irani etc.

When I was growing up in 1970s, I had heard of Gulshan Nanda a lot. Gulshan Nanda was the most popular Hindi novelist of that time. How popular he was could be judged from the fact that several of his novels were made into popular Hindi movies with same titles. For instance, “Kati Patang” (1970) was made based on his novel of the same name.

4 june is the birth anniversary of not one but two actresses of the golden era of Hindi movies. One is Bina Rai and another is Nutan. And what a coincidence that both of them were born on the same day in the same year. Both of them were born on 4 june 1936.
