I often get confused between the two similarly named movies of 1960s, viz “Shikaar” and “Shikaari”. The confusion is compounded by the fact that both movies had similar storylines, where the hero would go to a jungle for “shikaar” where he would enounter tribals wearing Red Indian/ African kinds of heargears etc and the daughter of the chief would be the chief female dancer among the tribal dance troupe that would sing and dance at the drop of a spear.

When I saw the lyrics of this song sent to me by nahm, I thought that she had sent this lyrics by mistake. How can this song be not yet posted ? But when I checked up, I found that not only this song, but in fact none of the songs of this movie, namely “Neela Aakash” (1965) have figured in the blog so far. So that makes this song a “How come this song is ot yet posted !” category of song.

If some of the children’s songs in Hindi films are of any indication, we get an impression that children of our country grow up quite early in terms of their maturity and actions. Some of such songs are addressed to the parents, elders and even to God. Of course, this is but one of the cinematic liberties which those associated with making films is entitled to. I never watched “Naya Zamaana”(1971), but I read the screenplay of this movie. Yes, those were the days when the screenplay of movies used to be published and they were eagerly lapped up by movie lovers. I read the screenplays of not only this movie, but also that of “Aasheerwaad” (1968), “Kati Panag”(1970), “Bobby” (1973) etc. These screenplays also had stills from the movie. These books described the story so vividly that one could visualise the movie in the eyes of the mind. Much later, when I watched “Bobby”(1973), I felt like I had watched this movie earlier while in reality I had only read its screenplay.
