I have talked about “teasing” songs in Bollywood movies. In these songs, the boy typically would tease a girl outdoors. But I just realised that this teasing can take place even indoors, and that too in the presence of others. Yes, get together songs offer an ideal opportunity to the boy to tease the girl in full public glare.

Roothe hon sanam to phir kyaa hai

In Hindi movies, “roothna” (sulking) is the preserve of females, and it is the male of the species who has to indulge in the act of “Manaanaa” (appeasement). I have posted many such songs like this in this blog, but it never occured to me to have a separate category for such songs.Now I have thought of this category called “sulking-appeasing song”.

“Naagin” (1954) was a hugely influential movie in the annals of Indian movies. This movie, and its music continued to be copied for several decades.

“Satte Pe Satta” (1982) was an adaptation of “Seven Brides for seven brothers”. When Bollywood makers draw inspirations from Western movies, they often spoil the original. This movie is one of the few that manages to remain an enjoyable movie. I have not watched the original, so I cannot say which movie was more fun, but I know for sure that “Satte Pe Satta” had some nice songs that the original movie did not have, 😉

Jaan pehchaan to pahle se thhi

Though this song is from a movie of 1970s, I had not heard this song before. This song is from “Bhala Maanus” (1979) and it had Randhir Kapoor and his would be sister in law Neetu Singh in lead roles. Kapoor Khaandaan men are known for figuring in this kind of casting. Here randhir Kapoor was at least acting opposite his (would be) sister in law, his uncles (Shammi Kapoor and Shashi Kapoor) in too acted opposite Babita (Randhir Kapoor’s wife) in several movies.

I read in a newspaper recently that Gulshan Baawra died in Mumbai at the age of 72.

I have posted quite a few songs in which two characters, mostly bit actors would sing a song ( often a philosophical song), and a crowd would gather around them to watch their poerformance. After the song, some people in the crowd would part with some small change as a token of their appreciation.

When one talks of “Pukaar”, one means Sohrab Modi’s historical movie of 1939. But another movie of this name was released in 1983 which had Amitabh Bachchan, Zeenat Aman and Randhir Kapoor in lead roles.
