Today’s song is from the film Farz-1947. This is an absolutely unknown and obscure film, made in the melee of the Partition blues. No information about this film is available anywhere. Even information in HFGK is also not complete.

When I first saw the name Farz, I remembered the 1967 film of Jeetendra and Babita. In those days, Jeetendra had become famous as ‘Jumping Jack’ and his trademark was White T-Shirt and White shoes. Farz was his just the 5th film, but the overwhelming success of this film catapulted him to the Top of the league. He became the young girls’ heartthrob.

I had mentioned in one of my earlier post on the blog, that nowadays (since Nov’2020 end) I got to listen to the radio utilizing my morning and evening time of about an hour or so while commuting towards my workplace (in the morning) and while returning back (in the evening). And normally I tune in to ‘Vivid Bharati’ only.

This exercise has given me an opportunity to listen to many songs from yesteryears and also songs from new movies. The joy and excitement of ‘the next song to be played’ is always there as on radio we cannot play songs of our choice.

Meri aawaaz hi pehchaan hai

meri aawaaz hi pehchaan hai ae
gar yaad rahe

I wonder if human voices are like DNA or fingerprints, as no two voices are ever absolutely the same. In blood relatives the voices are very similar, but they are also distinguishable with slight differing inflections. We have experienced such situations where, we have not met a person for a few years, but as soon as we hear their voice, without seeing them at first, we recognize the person and the face flashes before the eyes, before we turn around and actually see that person.

64th Birthday of Ranjeeta Kaur – 22.09.2020

I wish life could be just a song for the road just like this song on a motorcycle. A song heard in childhood, mainly on radio. In 1980 we had a T.V. at home, but that was only aired in the evening. The radio could be heard during the day also, but they were on air for specific hours only, be it “vividh bharati” or “All india Radio”, of which urdu service was the one for film songs. All these years the lyrics of the song complete with the first stanza have stayed in the memory. After the advent of youtube, I may have looked up this song too alongwith many other old songs.

The movie ‘Ankhiyon Ke Jharokhon Se’ was released in 1978 but I got to watch it much later, in the early eighties, and that too on Doordarshan when I had gone to Nagpur to my Uncle’s place.

Later on, I watched it when I had ‘colour TV’ at home.

Today (1 june 2020) is pehli taareekh. And it turns out that today is World Milk Day. In India, National Milk Day falls on a different day, namely 26 November, which is the birthday of Verghese Kurien, who brought White revolution( Milk revolution) in India.

When I was growing up, India was a desperately poor country. It was deficient in foodgrains and also milk. Our history books wistfully recalled those days in distant past when India was a prosperous country where “दूध की नदियाँ बहा करती थीं” ( “doodh ki nadiyan baha karti thi). Indians wistfully sighed and felt envious of countries like Netherlands that they were the nation that had doodh ki nadi flowing in their country.

Bangla Song in Hindi Films-2
———————————
‘Basu (Bhattacharya) used to be fired up by one-liners. He drew stories from one-line coming from his fertile mind’ thus said Rinki Roy Bhattacharya, daughter of Bimal Roy and the ex-wife of the late Basu Bhattacharya in an interview. After going through the interviews of Rinki Roy Bhattacharya and Gulzar who had been associated with Basu Bhattacharya, I have come with my own one-liner about Basu Bhattacharya. He made high quality films with low budget. His first film as a producer-director, ‘Uski Kahaani’ (1966) was made with a budget of Rs.one lakh only.

How did Basu Bhattacharya managed to produce and direct low budget films? Except the lead actors, he took his close friends as side actors, lyricists, music director and technicians with a tacit understanding that they will work within his low budget. And none of them seems to mind it as they kept their personal friendship above the professional relationship. He did not shoot the film in a studio but hired flats for shooting. For example, he majorly shot ‘Anubhav’ (1971) in Tanuja’s flat. ‘Aavishkar’ (1974) was majorly shot in his own flat at Khar.
