Neither state of affairs is desirable if you want to enjoy Hindi movies.

By that time, Bappi Lahiri with his chaalu brand of songs had displaced the usual kind of music and the golden era of Hindi movie music was all but over. In late 1960s, R D Burman kind of music marginalised the older generation of music directors. Here , in late 1970, we find Bappi Lahiri brand of music marginalising the likes of R D Burman !

Over time we had sporadic email exchanges. We discovered that not only we had a common interest (Hindi film songs) but also our backgrounds; similar age, similar geography (he from Ranchi and I from Jamshedpur; both in Jharkhand) and both from middle-class families.
