I recall listening to this song in my younger days. But as was the case with me for most songs, the only thing I knew about this song was what I heard, and no more. In other words, my knowledge of this song was confined to the fact that the song was sung by Rafi. Yes, I could identify Rafi’s voice even then. “Veer Babhruwaahan” (1950) is a movie about which very little is known today. The only think I know about this movie is that Mridula was the heroine of this movie. I am not sure about the identity of the hero. May be this song, which shows both of them will help readers of this blog to be able to identify the other actors of this movie.

“Mud Mud Ke Na Dekh” (1960) is a movie about which I have become aware just a few days ago. I have no idea how this movie fared at the box office, but I am just amazed at the songs of this movie. “Teasing” songs, where the hero is seen teasing the lady have been there from 1950s. And I mostly find them unrealistic. In real life, one cannot tease a girl like that in India and get away. But in Bollywood songs, the lady, after initial disapproval, begins to respond towards the later parts of the song. I find it difficult to identify with such picturisation.

There are very well known songs that remain well known to this day. Then there are songs that one may have listened to in distant past, never to be heard again. It is rather like Bollywood lost and found stories where family members get separated in childhood.

Music director Ravi (full name Ravishankar Sharma) does not occupy as much mindshare in public mind as many other music directors of the golden era of Bollywood movie music do . Many younger music lovers in fact ask “Ravi who ?” when his name crops up in discussions.
