Mil jaaye to mitti hai kho jaaye to sonaa hai
This couplet of a ghazal written by Nida Fazli, the modernist Urdu poet and writer, made him famous among mushaira goers. Later this full ghazal was sung by Jagjit Singh and Chitra Singh sometime in late 70s bringing Nida Fazli in the limelight in a wider canvass including Hindi film industry.

October seems to be the month of birthdays for all who made it a habit to entertain us. We have already celebrated Vinod Khanna’s birthday. Next was the turn of Rekha who shares her birhday with S.D.Burman. Then we have the Superstar of the millennium (as the media went overboard describing him) Amitabh Bachchan followed by the grand old man of Hindi movies Ashok Kumar who shares it with Nusrat Fateh Ali Khan. Then the list will have Nirupa Roy (everyone’s Mom or Ashok Kumar’s heroine as you may choose to remember her). And going by the list which Atul has compiled with the list sent by our in-house encyclopedia Arunkumar Deshmukhji and lots of inputs from Khyatiji and Prakashchandraji we will be celebrating a lot of birthdays in the days to come.

In fact, he had delivered a string of flop movies and he was on the verge of packing up and going back when “Zanjeer” (1973) was released and it became a hit. And after that Amitabh Bachchan did not have to look back.
