A film by name ‘Shobha’ is already present on our blog. That film is from the year 1942. As I was checking the film lists in the 1950s, I find that there is another film by the same name in the year 1954. This latter film is still to open its account on the blog. Well, that was just before this post came online. Today’s debut film is ‘Shobha’ from 1954.

“Darbaar” (1955) was a Golden Movie production. It was directed by N Vakil (aka Nanubhai B Vakil). The movie had Mahipal, Chitra, Sunder, Tiwari, Kammo, Kamal, Niranjan Sharma etc in it, which suggests that it was a B grade movie.

“Baahubali” part I was a movie that I had watched in 2015 in a city in Eastern UP. I had landed up there while I was transferred from my previous place of posting in Chattisgarh and I was awaiting my next posting.
The people of that town were quite laid back and they took nearly two weeks to get my posting order issued. That gave me enough time to watch a few movies, something I rarely do. In fact, I watched “Baahubali” part I twice !

Time to Yippeee another film. Today’s film is ‘Humjoli’ – not the one from 1970, but the one from way back in 1946. This film has 10 songs listed in the Geet Kosh. Nine songs have already been showcased here on our blog. The last song for this film was posted in November last year. In that post, Atul ji has commented that the 10th song appears to be elusive, and is yet to be uploaded online. Today, as I checked for this song, I am unable to track it anywhere as yet. I could be wrong, as I have been earlier, maybe just limited by the way I searched for it. So I decided to upload this from my collection.

Report on Gangout in Mumbai on 29-4-2017, Part 1
—————————————————–
It so happened that Bakshish Singh ji had informed me that he would be in Mumbai, for a week, in February. Later on he informed that author Javed Hamid ji will also accompany him and so he suggested that we meet on 25th February 2017. Accordingly, all arrangements were made and plans were drawn by me and Sadanand ji. However, around 20th February or so, Bakshish ji informed me that due to a death in the family, he had cancelled his visit. So, the meeting was postponed to April end when, as per him, he would come to Mumbai with Sudhir ji and Javed ji.

Missing Films of 1960s – 29
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – –
With this post, I introduce another missing film from the 1960s. The film is ‘Khufia Mahal’ from 1964. As I checked out the songs of this film, I find some very lovable compositions. And why not. The music is from the mind of that one another unsung genius of that era – Pardesi. With a career that was limited to just four films, one sees him active from 1960 to 1972. And after that, lost in the dusks of anonymity. Nothing much more is available in terms of information, other than the 30+ songs he has created, some of which are real gems.
