“Man Pasand” (1980 – censored on 26-6-1980 and released on 11-7-1980) was among the first few movies whose music cassette was purchased by my father along with “Yaarana” when they hit the market. And since then I am a huge fan of their songs. I Know almost all of them by heart.
This was a movie produced by Amit Khanna and directed by Basu Chatterji. Rajesh Roshan was the music director and Amit Khanna himself wrote the lyrics. The movie itself was inspired by the famous stage play by George Bernard Shaw – ‘Pygmalion’ (first published in 1913), and also on the hugely popular iconic film ‘My Fair Lady’ (1964 – Rex Harrison and Audrey Hepburn). The movie stars Dev Anand, Tina Munim, Girish Karnad, Simple Kapadia, Leela Mishra, Jalal Agha (appears as a guest in the song with this post), Piloo Wadia and Mehmood.

Tribute to S. P. Balasubramaniam

The great playback singer of south india left for heavenly abode after his month long illness and Covid – 19 related complications, which had him hospitalised since August. He is said to have recorded his last song on 5th August at Hyderabad. Some sources are reporting he has total 40000 songs to his credit. This calculates to more than two songs per day, in a 50 year career. The career spanning 5 decades and active career he was much revered and loved in the south India’s movie and music fan. The four primary languages of the south, namely Kannada, Telegu, Tamil and Malayalam have the major share of his songs.

Hullo Atuldom
This is a post to wish Suyash Pandey on his 58th birthday (DoB 25 September 1962). His mother was a physician and a personal dietitian to Rekha in the ’80s. His father was in the team of surgeons who performed the first ever heart transplant in India at Mumbai’s KEM Hospital in the 70s. Suyash Pandey’s daughter is also in movies and she made her debut in 2019.

Dev Anand – 97th Birth Anniversary

Dharamdev Pishorimal Anand (26 September 1923 – 3 December 2011), is the full name of the dashing, debonair yet chocolate hero of the 50’s, also nicknamed as the ever green actor, he was a hero, director, producer and what not. He is known for never say die attitude and being a gentleman of the old world sense. He formed a trio of superstars with Dilip Kumar and Raj Kapoor in the black n white era.

In one recent article of Sudhir jee on his “This week that year” series, he wondered why my spree of posting one “Anmol Ghadi”(1946) song everyday had a break of one day and subsequently the final song got covered after break of one day. I do not have any recollections of those days, but I am certain about the fact that the concept of YIPPying all the songs of a movie had not entered my mind by that time. My attempt was to cover all songs that I could come across. I may have missed stumbling against the one remaining Anmol Ghadi song on that day whereas I could locate it the next day. That is the only plausible explanation that I can think of.

“Maa Baap” (1944) was directed by V M Vyas for Sunrise Pictures, Bombay. This “social” movie had had Nazir Khan, Veena, Rajkumari Shukla, Yakub, Dixit, Majid, Jagdish, Mirza Musharraf, Khursheed Ahmad, Amirbai Karnataki, Motibai, Kalyani etc in it.

23 rd September was Tanuja’s 77th Birthday and 25th September, 2020 is the 81st birth Anniversary of Feroze Khan. Incidentally, these two have acted opposite each other in at least one film, i.e. Ek Paheli (1971). These are three songs already posted in the blog from this film :
