Does the name Sunil Sikanderlal Kapoor ring a bell in our minds? No? But if I say “Nandu, sabka Bandhu”, will that help us to identify the person I am talking of? I think the answer will be yes, by some of the regulars in the blog. Now one more famous line from this actor—“main crime master GO-GO, ankhen nikal ke goti kheloonga”. I can quote so many of his dialogues that I will stop here or the readers will say –“Samajhta nahin hai yaar” (she is boring us). Now I am sure that all of you would have come pretty close to identifying the actor who celebrated his 58th birthday yesterday (3rd September).
(Note: The article was received in good time yesterday, but could not be posted in time. 🙂 )

Genius of Jaidev – 24
———————————-
The 1957 film ‘Anjali‘, produced by Kala Kunj, Bombay (to the surprise of younger generation, our state was called ‘Bombay’ then) and directed by Chetan Anand had music by our Jaidev with lyrics by Nyay Sharma. This theme song was often repeated in the film. The film starts with melodious ‘alaaps’ by Lata, following the hymns ‘Buddham Sharanam Gachchhaami ….’. Later on there is a chorus lead by Rafi. I am sure this must have been repeated several times. In the end the video of the last stanza surprisingly emerges on YouTube. (This raises our hope that there must be video of the film available in video cassette form, which may surface anytime, in future, to our delight.)
Since the title portion would not qualify individually, to be posted on our Blog, having no singing words, I combined it in the beginning of the main Rafi and chorus song. Again the short video of the last stanza emerged, so that too, was combined for this presentation. (achchha kiya na?)
Since Sheila Ramani and Chetan Aanand are seen in the concluding scene, there must have been two heroines in this film – Sheila and Nimmi – for lucky Chetan Aanand.
Jaidev, composed nine melodious tunes, out of ten, for this film. But as far as this classic Buddha prayer is concerned, he totally copied lying down with closed eyes, the Sinhalese original version.

Hearty greetings to all friends and readers on the celebration of the Raksha Bandhan festival today.
Ok, ok, I know the query springing in your mind. No, I have not fallen off the edge of the earth. Very much here, reassuringly. Just that the cycles of fate brought in significant distractions and preoccupation for both Atul ji and myself, at the same time. The postings are just a trickle these days. But things on the personal and work fronts are keeping both of us away. Atul ji has been maintaining the trickle, whereas I have not been able to get anything on to the blog for days on end now. Long stories are often uninteresting, so I will cut it short, and say that days of drought are coming to a close. How soon, you may want to know. Pretty soon, I assure you. 😉 Hopeful to see more activity moving forward, and then we should be back to our regular output shortly.

एक सागर है, आवाज़ का, जिसमे डूबे ही रहने को मन करता है।
These are times to be thankful. And to feel blessed. That we are living in the times when this treasure of music was created. We continue to search and explore and continue finding gems, obscure gems, unheard gems, lost gems – songs that were once created with a lot of enthusiasm and zeal. Yes, these are times to feel blessed that these gems are available and accessible. I am really anxious about the day, and shrink away from the thought – the day when we will have no more songs of Rafi Sb to post. Life will continue, no doubt. It has a relentlessness built into it. But then, we will be carrying with us, an emptiness – that there are no more “unheard” songs to search for.

Entertaining Sales Pitch Songs – 10
—————————————————–
[Note of Apology: This write up has been in the making since two nights, including the “telephonic interview”. Apologies that I was not able to post it before midnight yesterday. But then the thought comes – it is still 19th July somewhere in the world. Ah yes, our Khyati Ben in Los Angeles, USA, is still working through the 19th. So in a ‘relative’ way, this post is still on time. A brief summary of the celebration events covered herein – seventh anniversary for the blog, 11,300th song posted, and the completion of the planned ‘Entertaining Sales Pitch Songs’ series. Read on.]
[Note of Apology 2: With due apologies to Atul ji, for having taken some liberties in narrating certain aspects of his household. I am very sure the permission towards these liberties are/will be granted, even though the same has not yet been formally requested 😉 ]
Einstein has said, and he must have been quoted on this many million times by now, that ‘time is relative’. There are a variety of different explanations and discourses on this single statement, depending on the perspective or the branch of science or maths, or for that matter, any other subject, that one is considering. There is a very interesting anecdote connected with this statement. Once a newspaper reporter asked Einstein to explain in simple terms, what is the meaning of the phrase ‘time is relative’. And Einstein, without going into any mathematical or philosophical explanations, gave the following response. He said – consider the situation when someone is holding your feet to the fire. In such a circumstance, a passage of even 5 seconds would seem as if an hour has passed. Then again, think of a situation, when you are sitting and talking ‘sweet nothings’ with your beloved. Then, after an hour has passed, it would seem to you as if just maybe five minutes have gone by. That is what makes time relative. 🙂

July 18th is an important date in the life of atulsongaday.me. Actually it marks the eve of the birth of the blog itself. I wonder what must have been Atul ji’s sphere of activity on the day prior to this date in the year 2008 when the blog was launched. Last year on this date we were on a countdown to reach our song number 10,000. With this post, we stand at 11,295.
