This article is the 13400th song post in the blog.
Have you ever wondered. . .
how a song gets constructed?
and why a song is termed as a tip of the iceberg?
You must now be thinking – this is a peculiar but a very interesting intro to the 134th century post on the blog. So yes, before getting into the discussion on the proposed topic, congratulations are in order. Welcome all to the 13 thousand 4 hundredth post on our blog. The musical bandwagon rolls on – toiling, pleasing, emotionally invigorating – it continues to move tirelessly. Because. . . because music – must be there. The world, this nature – all are moving to a rhythm, and a melody. Music is instilled in everything every entity we know, we touch, we think of. But come to think of it, we do not often think of this world that way i.e. music in everything, everyday of our lives. We are so consumed with the process of existence and living day to day, that we forget to stop and smell the flowers (or smell the coffee, if you are in America). And the music of life gets hidden behind the other sundries. Often we forget to think about it.

taqdeer ka fasaana. . .
So much to be said for destiny and luck. Especially in an industry as unkind and pitiless, as the film industry. They always say, success sells; nothing succeeds like success. But then what to say of success stories that really didn’t go any place.

Today (30 june 2017) is the birth anniversary of Kalyanji (30 june 1928-24 august 2000 ) of the well-known Kalyanji-Anandji music composer duo. Or K-A, in short. I’ve written here on the occasion of the anniversary of several artistes. Composers, lyricists, actors, directors. In fact most of my posts here are to do with some occasion or the other.

Today’s song is from film ‘Chaand Taara’ (1945). This song is sung by Noor Mohammed ‘Charlie ‘ and chorus. Today (30th June) is the anniversary of Charlie’s passing away in 1983. This song is in his memory. This song also happen to be a parody song. No, no, I am not doing a series on parody songs. It is just a coincidence that I got hold of a second rare song which is also a parody song.

Today, I am writing about one of the prominent actors of 1930s and 40s who started his film career in the silent film era and became producer-director during the second half of 1940s. His name – Mazhar Khan, a forgotten name not only for the current generation but also for many in my generation as well.

Last of the Music Moguls. Not that there have not been more prolific artists and music directors after him. One can readily name a few – Anu Malik, AR Rahman, Ilayaraja. But me, personally speaking, will not put the follow on ‘champs’ in the same bracket. Something ended when he left us, twenty three years ago. Times were-a-changing even as the 1960s played itself out. And he himself was singularly instrumental in that transformation.

In a calendar year we celebrate special anniversaries of personalities related to HFM in almost all the months. Moreover, we pay our respect and homages on the remembrance day of such personalities too.
We also celebrate birth anniversaries of our team members and their family members and other ‘special days’ in their life, through posts/songs on the blog.

Under this series today we have this beautiful ‘Sufi Qawwali’ composed by C.Arjun and which is written by none other than Sahir Ludhianvi for the movie ‘Nawaab Sahib-1978’. I have vague memories of watching this movie in late seventies or early eighties, but I do not remember much about this movie or its story line. The only memory of this movie that I had carried over in my growing years and thereafter was this song ‘Hum Mein Hai Kya Ke Hamen Koi Haseena Chaahe’ sung by Mohd Rafi.

At the time of the release of National Studios’ film ‘Roti’ (1942) in August 1942, the production house was sold to KM Modi, a prominent film exhibitors of that time who had no interest in producing films. At that time, three films of National Studios were under the advance stage of completion. ‘Jawaani’ (1942) was one among the three films, other two films being ‘Lala ji’ (1942) and ‘Apna Paraaya’ (1942). Anil Biswas was the music directors for all the three films.
