Time to Yippeee another film. Today’s film is ‘Humjoli’ – not the one from 1970, but the one from way back in 1946. This film has 10 songs listed in the Geet Kosh. Nine songs have already been showcased here on our blog. The last song for this film was posted in November last year. In that post, Atul ji has commented that the 10th song appears to be elusive, and is yet to be uploaded online. Today, as I checked for this song, I am unable to track it anywhere as yet. I could be wrong, as I have been earlier, maybe just limited by the way I searched for it. So I decided to upload this from my collection.

Today (10 may 2017) is the third anniversary of passing away of character actor Sudhir (10 May, 2014).

Now the last I had seen him in a movie was in ‘Jhoom Barabar Jhoom’ in 2007 in a blink and miss role. Then we had also seen him in movies like ‘Dulhe Raja’ (1998) in a slightly less brief role with some comic timing thrown in. Prior to this I can remember him in Shahrukh Khan’s ‘Baadshah’ (1999) where also he had some comedy in the situation of his character. In the interim he was also seen in a few television serials. But of course if someone asked me who Sudhir was I can say that he was the smart guy (smarter than Dev Anand if I am allowed to say) in ‘Gambler’ (1971) who sits besides the heroine, Zahida, in the song “Dil Aaj Shaayar Hai Gham Aaj Naghma Hai“. But I had no material at hand to write about Sudhir. For example, I didn’t know where he was from etc. He played characters that were always behind the scenes in many of his movies like ‘Shareef Badmash’ (1973) etc. I checked online and found that his real name was Bhagwandas Mulchand Luthria. I also learnt that he is uncle to Milan Luthria who has made a few movies in recent times. Then on further googling I also saw that he had produced a movie or two (according to IMDB.com). It seems he was also an assistant director.  But nothing more that would stand out so I am leaving it to our experts in Atuldom to fill about this character artiste.

[Ed Note: Please see the post for the song “Na Maano To Koi Shikaayat Nahin” from film ‘Ustad 420’ (1969), as well as the comments therein. The comments plus the post provide a fairly detailed bio sketch of the character actor Sudhir.]

Missing Films of 1960s – 29
– – – – – – – – – – – – – – –

With this post, I introduce another missing film from the 1960s. The film is ‘Khufia Mahal’ from 1964. As I checked out the songs of this film, I find some very lovable compositions. And why not. The music is from the mind of that one another unsung genius of that era – Pardesi. With a career that was limited to just four films, one sees him active from 1960 to 1972. And after that, lost in the dusks of anonymity. Nothing much more is available in terms of information, other than the 30+ songs he has created, some of which are real gems.

Atul ji’s 10K Song Milestone Celebrations – 13
———————————————————————-

गाता जाये बंजारा

That is the image that forms in the mind. A distant, unfamiliar scenario. A solitary person trudging along a dusty road that leads through farms and fields, passing through towns big and small.

There is a purpose in the pace. There is a steadiness in the tread. There seems to be an unhurried and patient urgency in the forward movement.

Is he searching for someone, for something? Is he expecting a certain destination? I don’t know. The landmarks, they come and go, the milestones pass by. But he appears not to halt anywhere, never seems to take rest. Just a pause at a milestone, sees it with a searching eye, takes another breath, and then presses on.

He seems to be carrying something, slung on the shoulders. Is that an instrument of music? Or is it something else? What is it, I am not able to make out.

Atul ji’s 10K Song Milestone Celebrations – 12
———————————————————————-

Atul ji has become a legend now 🙂 . Anybody disagrees? I dont think so. Who else has achieved what he has achieved – a mammoth task of collecting information about 10,000 songs and then writing/sharing the same with like-minded enthusiasts. A monumental work, unselfish to the core. What sacrifices he must have made, how much time he would have spent, what passion he must be having to carry on blogging relentlessly for almost 9 years!! You would get an idea of it when you go through one of his write-ups for the song “Kitne Bhi Tu Kar Le Sitam“. Forget about miserly people running such a blog, it is not a possibility at all. Even a person earning good amount of money would hesitate to do it. You will understand my statement in its full extent only if you read the above-mentioned write-up.

“All the thoughts expressed in this write-up are based on real life experience and day to day happenings, feelings, and emotions triggered by such incidences related with the blog and because of the love, admiration and respect for this blog”
Any ‘resemblance’ of the thoughts mentioned in the write-up is very much expected (and is not a mere ‘coincidence’) with ‘everyman’/ ‘everywoman’s thoughts who is ‘Hindi movie buff’ and lover of HFM for which the author should not be held responsible or criticized or punished in ‘any’ form 🙂
Also, as this is the ‘man ki baat’ of the author the ‘word limit’ does not matter 🙂

This is another one of my long pending posts which I longed to share since couple of years now. I had kept this song reserved for a ‘special occasion’. However as the write-up could not be completed in time, I missed some ‘special occasions’ and so this still remained to be shared.

But then, what could be a better timing and a ‘greater occasion’ than it is to celebrate our Atul ji’s ‘10,000th post’.  So, here we go with this post today heartily Congratulating Atul ji on his 10,000 or 10K posts on the blog!!!

Atul ji’s 10K Song Milestone Celebrations – 10
———————————————————————-

Congratulations Atul ji for this unparalleled effort of ten thousand posts. You are truly an inspiration! We have a lot to learn from you and Thanks from the bottom of my heart for all that you do.

Today, I write this post with a gamut of emotions running through my mind. I still remember the year was 2008. A team of music lovers including me had got together and launched the website on www.geetadutt.com It had been a labour of love for us to make a digital temple dedicated to our beloved singer. We had spent countless hours discussing over the internet on what all should be put on the website and then doing the needful to make it happen. Our small team was very dedicated and the beauty of all of it was that we all had never met till then.

This article is the 13200th song post in the blog.

With this post, the blog has now clocked thirteen thousand two hundred unique songs. It may be so that these century milestone are now an expected regularity. But then, it is these (now) minor milestones, that come together and collectively put together and characterize the larger milestones – A journey of a thousand steps is made up of a thousand steps.

OK so, ‘Ek Ladki Saat Ladke’ from 1961, is the film that today joins the ranks of films with all their songs posted. It is Yippeee-land time for this film. And that’s all folks, that I can say for this film. Another one of the ‘Lost Children’, about whom nothing more is known, nothing more exists in memory. Yes, there is information that is contained in the Geet Kosh. Based on the Geet Kosh inputs, the basic demographics for this film are as follows.

The film is produced and directed by Roop K Shorey. The cast of actors is very brief – Ravinder Kapoor, Ameeta, Majnu, Badri Prasad, and Durga Khote. After having tasted success with ‘Ek Thi Ladki’ (1949) and ‘Ek Do Teen’ (1953), Roop K Shorey tried to repeat a similar sounding formula in this film.  The earlier two films had Motilal and Meena K Shorey as the lead pair, and Vinod as the music director.  But in this film, the only common link is Vinod, who also was replaced by S Mohinder, in unfortunate circumstances.

I came across a nice number from ‘Police Public’ (1990) by chance when I happened to click here on a Lollywood number “Mein Jis Din Bhula Doon Tera Pyar Dil Se” penned by Masroor Anwar for Khushboo (1979). On that YouTube web-page, I also noticed the same mukhda under this ‘Police Public’ number.

Similar – or even identical – mukhdas are not all that rare; and Lollywood and Bollywood copying each other’s themes, tunes and lyrics was not unheard of in the yesteryears. But what struck me was almost identical lyrics – albeit in different settings and tunes.

Be it as it may be, ‘Police Public’, a Vijay Mehta production, was directed by Esmayeel Shroff. It has a crime-corruption busting theme with Raaj Kumar as a fearless senior C.B.I. inspector as its chief protagonist.
