76th Birthday of Javed Akhtar
————————————————————

Gham-e-dil sunnane ko jee chaahtaa hai
Tumhen aazmaane ko jee chaahtaa hai

Sunaa hai ke jab se bohat door ho tum
Bohat door jaane ko jee chaahtaa hai

Unhen ham se koyi shikaayat nahin hai
Yunhi rootth jaane ko jee chaahtaa hai

Faqat hai yahi unn ki nazron ka dhokaa
Ke dhoke mein aane ko jee chaahtaa hai

Duaa hai ke ham se woh sau baar rootthen
Hamaara manaane ko jee chaahtaa hai

Nazar wo na aayen par unn ki gali mein
Yunhi aane jaane ko jee chaahtaa hai

—————————————————-
I could not find whose ghazal is this is, but giving it here as it rhymes with the title of the movie ‘Dil Chahta hai” (2001).

The song is a duet by Alka Yagnik and Udit Narayan. All the songs of this film are penned by Javed Akhtar and composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. At the turn of the century, the melodious songs, sufiana, fusion, newer music instruments were all the new fad. And the foreign location shoots were also back with a bang in mainstream hindi films. It was not only the Yash Chopra films that were shot in Switzerland etc. There is the whole world to explore and Hindi films have been shot at many locations.

Blog 10-Year Challenge (2011-2021) – Song No. 2
———————————————————————————–

This day ten year ago (viz 17 January 2011) was a lean day when only one song from “Paayal”(1957) was discussed. This song, Jaago aur jagaao was the second song from the movie to be covered in the blog. The movie had nine songs in it and six of these songs have been covered so far. So the movie is still unYIPPEED and therefore this movie is eligible for Blog Ten Year Challenge today.

Regulars on the blog would have noticed that I was looking for movies where only one song was posted. Recently I shared some songs where I tried to add a second song to the ‘one song movies’ on the blog.

Then we also noticed that some movies were standing for a long time with ‘only one song’ represented on the blog for a long time. Some were fortunate to get represented with their second song because of the ‘Blog Ten Year Challenge’ started with ‘2009-2019’ songs (from 02.02.2019).

Today’s song is from the film Bambai ki Billi aka Wild Cat-1960.

This was a Stunt film, produced by Aspy Irani for his own banner – Super Pictures, Bombay. The film was directed by Zahoor Ahmed. The music was by Khayyam. He was assisted by Bipin and Mehboob. This Bipin was a part of Bipin-Babul duo, who gave music to 12 films together as a team. After leaving Khayyam, Bipin assisted Madan Mohan, where Babul was already an assistant. They joined hands and made a pair of Composers as Bipin-Babul.

I remember, when I was a growing child, I used to hear the name of film personality called ‘Sajjan’ by elders at home, or likeminded cine-goers who were family friends of my parents.
I used to wonder who exactly this person was in the movies I was watching. It continued for many years and all this while I had no clue about this person.

When I was a grown-up boy (😉) and was studying in 11-12th standard I watched ‘Johny Mera Naam-1970’ in 1983-85. And here for the first time I get to know who exactly the actor named ‘Sajjan’ was. After that whichever movies new and older I watched I enjoyed his performance on screen. In the background his image of a good character actor (that build up in my mind from the discussions at home) was always there in my mind. So, I was also enjoying his negative roles in many black & white movies of fifties and sixties.

Geeta Dutt – Solos and duets (03)
———————————–

My comment on the 900th song post of Geeta Dutt’s songs :

Congratulations on completing 900 songs of Geeta Dutt. Out of the 500 plus songs that remain to covered in the blog, there are many which sound so beautiful. I have made a short list of her duets and solos yet to be posted and it is difficult to decide on one. In fact I wrote down the lyrics of two such song over the weekend.

Like Husnlal-Bhagatram’s songs, I find it difficult to move past an unheard song by Geeta Dutt. Somehow she captivates the listener on first hearing. A truly gifted and versatile artist.
