Mukesh and his Composers – 5
————————————

Remembering Mukesh (22 July 1923 – 27 August 1976) today (22 july 2015)on his 92nd birth anniversary.

The year 1958 was a turning point in the singing career of Mukesh. Though he had started his career nearly two decades back in 1940 and had some remarkable hits in late 40’s and early 50’s, his foray into acting-singing in the early fifties had some disastrous consequences which in my view affected his whole career in some way or the other. If we in this blog pride ourselves in the fact that we “dig” (literally and figuratively) old and obscure songs and share our findings, there have been other HFM lovers who have dug out information about lesser known artists from the past and brought them to limelight. Greta (Memsaab) has done a yeoman’s service in helping bring lesser known faces of Hindi movies to limelight. It is because of her amazing researches on lesser known artists that we now remember the names of artists like Nazir Kashmiri, Laxmi Chhaayaa, Bela Bose, Ted Lyons etc. In fact, I became aware of lead artists like Shakila, Shyama etc mainly because of her articles in her blog. This was in addition to her love for artists like Shammi Kapoor, Dara Singh, Ranjeet etc, of course.

Nightingale Noorjehan – 8
——————————

Looking back to the last two posted Noorjehan’s song, I feel sorry for HER that she does not have any ‘fans’ left now. With not a single comment there I could hear her painful calling her ‘fans’ “Aawaz de kahan hai?” I know the minority who liked ‘melodious and heart-touching songs, is on the verge of being ‘extinct’….. but so soon?

Any way following Geeta, (not the person but the scripture) I should continue ….. (Maa faleshu kadaachana …)
The song under discussion is a joyful song about the travel on the old time smoking train (another extinct object!) Moti’s voice is heard singing solo, duet and brief joyful ‘aalaaps’.

Today’s song is from a ‘C ‘ grade stunt film of Master Bhagwan-Jigar-1949.

The word Jigar can mean Liver, heart, courage, dear, friend, depending on the context. Master Bhagwan- the name creates an image of a slightly bulky, smiling and jovial person doing a typical Álbela style dance.

Today (19 july 2015) is the seventh birth anniversary of this blog. It was started on this day in 2008.

As mentioned in earlier posts today, there was no celebration in the blog when it turned one year old. We began to celebrate the anniversaries from subsequent years. The sixth year celebration, viz the celebration last year in july 2015 was on a grand and ambitious scale. It on on that occasion that the blog touched the magical mark of TEN THOUSAND songs.

As has been mentioned in the earlier posts of the day, today (19 july 2015) is the seventh birth anniversary of this blog. One single article was posted on the first day of the blog in 2008. The blog remained one song a day blog for the first forty days and then we began to post several articles every day. Today, seven year later, the blog has well over elevent thousand songs. If one takes an average, it turns out to be an average of 4.5 songs per day. Come to think of it, maintaining this daily strike rate for seven years is quite an achievement.
