‘Senapati’ (1961) was produced by Jai Gopal Mohla under the banner Mohla Films and was directed by Kedar Kapoor. The star cast included Prithviraj Kapoor, Nalini Jaywant, Amarnath, Veena, K N Singh, Tiwari, Helen, Durga Khote, Chaman Puri, Heera Sawant, Rajan Kapoor, Janakidas, Jeevan Kala, Madhumati etc. I heard the name of the producer, J G Mohla for the first time. Before this film, he had produced ’Insaan’ (1952) and ‘Ehsaan’ (1954). After ‘Senapati’ (1961), he seems to have vanished from Hindi films. But when I saw the name of Madan Mohla as the Associate Producer of this film, it gave me a hint of some connection with J G Mohla. Madan Mohla is a familiar name because of some of his box office hit films like ‘Sharafat’ (1972), ‘Raja Jani’ (1974), ‘Dus Numbri’ (1976) etc. The online search revealed that Madan Mohla was the son of Jai Gopal Mohla (J G Mohla). Incidentally, Madan Mohla was also the assistant director under director Kedar Kapoor for this film.

‘Kal Hamaaraa Hai’ (1959) was produced by K Amarnath and was directed by S K Prabhakar. The film’s story and the impression of the film have been well covered in the recent two articles on the film in the Blog. So, I will not repeat the same. Suffice to say here that the film was inspired from then Government’s efforts to improve the economic condition of the people of India through Five-Year Plans. However, there is a need to weed out corruption, anti-social elements and the social injustice. In these efforts, citizens have also some duties to perform, that is, to follow the path of honesty and hard work with the positive attitude.

The cast included Vijaya Choudhary, Jagdeep, Jeevan, Helen, Sundar, Jeevankala, Kanchanmala, Shammi, Anant Prabhu, Mahendra, Gopal etc. It is one of the few films in which Jagdeep was in a lead role. His other films in the lead role were ‘Barkha’ (1960) and ‘Band Master’ (1963).

‘Kaabli Khan’ (1963) was produced and directed by K Amarnath under his banner, K Amarnath Productions. The cast included Ajit, Helen, Jayant, Ulhas, Samson, Salim Khan, Indira Bansal, Mukri, W M Khan, Amrit Rana etc. The film belonged to costume drama genre. This was the first film for Helen as a lead actress. Incidentally, it was also in K Amarnath’s film in which Helen got her first opportunity of solo dance performance. Another interesting thing about this film is that for the first time, Salim Khan and Helen have worked together though they did not have any dialogues between them. In this film, Salim Khan had a role of a prince. Except for a couple of dialogues, he was mostly seen as a prisoner and hence his exposure in the film was limited.

The star cast included Pradeep Kumar, Tanuja, Neelofer, N A Ansari, Johny Walker, D K Sapru, Laxmi Chhaya, Bela Bose, Shobhana Samarth, Amrit Rana etc. Probably, this was the first Hindi film in the genre of a science-fiction dealing with extra-terrestrials. The star cast included Madhuri Dixit and Shah Rukh Khan in primary roles supported by Deepak Tijori (guest appearance), Kiran Kumar, Sudha Chandran, Tinu Anand, Johny Lever, Kalpana Iyer, Himani Shivpuri, Beena, Rumi Jaffrey, Birbal etc. This was the first film of Shah Rukh Khan with Madhuri Dixit and his 3rd film in a negative role after the box office successes of his earlier two films with negative (rather anti-hero) roles in ‘Baazigar’ (1993) and ‘Darr’ (1993).

“Mission Kashmir” is a 2000 (27th October 2000) released action thriller film directed and produced by Vidhu Vinod Chopra. Original story was by Vidhu Vinod Chopra & Vikram Chandra; who were also the screenplay writers along with Abhijat Joshi & Suketu Mehta. Rahat Indori & Sameer were the lyricists for songs that were composed by Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy. Shankar Mahadevan, Alka Yagnik, Udit Narayan, Vinod Rathod, Anuradha Paudwal, Jaspinder Narula, Sunidhi Chauhan & Mahalakshmi Iyer were the singers used in the 6 songs.
The film stars Sanjay Dutt, Hrithik Roshan, Jackie Shroff, Preity Zinta, Sonali Kulkarni and Pururava Pandit (son of yesteryear actor Rajkumar who was known in films as Puru Rajkumar). Heena Biswas & Mohsin Memon played the childhood characters of Sufia & Altaaf (the characters of Preity Zinta & Hrithik Roshan). There were a host of known faces playing important characters in the film.
