In this article, I will explore the song, ‘imtihaan ham pyaar ka de ke, raah dekhe kya hai nateeja’ from ‘Dil Hi Dil Mein’ (2000) which was remade in Hindi from the 1999 released Tamil film, ‘Kadhalan Dhinam’ (Valentine’s Day). The Hindi film was partly dubbed and partly reshot as two of the supporting actors – Anupam Kher and Johny Lever were not the part of the original Tamil film. The lead actors in both the versions were Sonali Bendre and Kunal Singh who debuted as the lead actor in both these films. I had heard the song under discussion long time back without knowing the name of the film. In fact, I was not aware of either of these films until recently.

AR Rehman – The Musician of 21st Century – 4

Agar firdaus bar-rū-e-zamīñ ast
Hamīñ ast o hamīñ ast o hamīñ ast

Dekh tera kya rang kar diya hai
Khushboo ka jhonka tere sang kar diya hai

If I say that the above lines perfectly describe the colourful sights and smells of Kashmir, then it is much less than what I want to say. The first time I travelled outside Maharashtra, north of Mumbai, was the trip to Kashmir combined with Delhi-Agra visit back in 2012. So, after 10 years I just thought, let’s do a package tour this time. There we were, 6 of us in the group, a couple from Bangalore, two senior ladies from Gujarat and my husband with his better half 😊. We two reached a day earlier then the group tour was to start, in the 3rd week of August. This was right after the engagement ceremony in Belgaum. So, we got to stay in two different houseboats and we covered Yusmarg, another beautiful part of the valley, a little off the beaten track. Apart from Srinagar, this was the only place I got to see a crowd of local people. There were some school groups, who were visiting that day. Lots of girls and boys in school uniforms with teachers.

Today’s song is from the movie ‘Gawaah-1979’ which is making its debut on the blog with this song.
Though a recent movie by the standards of this blog this seems to be an obscure movie of its time. None of its video is available on the internet and so far audio is also available for one song only.

Celebrating a wedding at Bangalore
———————————————-

The wedding of my nephew (Elder sisters son) was solemnised at Bangalore in the last week of December. The groom is born in Mumbai, but has grown up studied and now working also in Bangalore, so he is a Bangaloria, through and through. I used to call him Bangaloria when he was a kid, for the way he would speak the local dialect. The engagement had taken place at Belgaum in August. The bride’s family are very traditional and conservative. They wanted the wedding to take place within 2-3 months. November was the month, they wanted to plan. Since we had our Turkey visit already planned for November end, and my brother had only few days leave in December, somehow, a date suiting all made final.

The Indian film industry has been absorbing and giving opportunities to all people in India, irrespective of their Caste, Culture, Language, Religion or Province. Maharashtra being ” The birthplace of Indian Film industry” (not my words, but a title of the English book by Isaq Mujavar), initially the film industry had a sizable majority of Marathi and Gujarati people. The Marathis had the talent and the Gujaratis had the money power. After some time, slowly people from all regions, religions and provinces joined the industry. By the time of the First talkie film came, the first film “Alam Ara”-1931 virtually reflected the representations of the variety of people operating in the film industry.

Today’s song is a lovely duet song sung by Mohd Rafi and Radha Saluja. I guess this is the first song by Radha Saluja on the blog. I am not aware much about her singing. As per the details available on online sources her voice appeared in at least three songs in Hindi films. One of these songs is being presented today.

Hullo Atuldom

Wishing everyone of us a Very Happy Republic Day.

गणतंत्र दिवस की शुभकामनायें

This was my post last year for the occasion. & in that post I had lamented about ignorance among many citizens regarding the significance of 26th January and why it was chosen to be Republic Day.

“The 308 members of the Constituent Assembly, of thenewly Independent India, signed hand-written copies (in Hindi and English) of the Constitution of India on 24th January 1950 after much deliberation and some changes. The Constitution was adopted and came into effect throughout the country from 26th January 1950. Dr. Rajendra Prasad started his tenure as first President of India and the Constituent Assembly became the Parliament of India.
